Liverpool have reportedly agreed to a deal worth £25m for the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara. The report also adds that the Spaniard will be moving to Anfield on a four-year deal.

Thiago has been long-speculated to leave the Allianz Arena after refusing to sign a new deal, even confirmed by Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Liverpool turned out to be the frontrunners for his signature although they hadn’t submitted any official bids. Now, the Reds have finally made a breakthrough in Thiago’s pursuit after agreeing to a £25m move including add-ons.

Jurgen Klopp, who turns out to be an admirer of the former Barcelona star, has recently refused to rule out the Spaniard’s move to Anfield.

“I cannot end speculation as long as the transfer window is open.

“It is nice that we are linked with him but that is pretty much it really. It is because he is a good player and Liverpool is a big club, so that is nice.”

Bayern manager Hansi Flick also spoke about Thiago’s departure, stating that it was emotional for the team.

“Thiago is an exceptional player who had huge success here for seven years. He’s a great person and an exceptional professional.

“It was very emotional today when he said goodbye.”

Thiago has been an exceptional player over the course for Bayern and is currently at the peak of his powers. In the last season, Thiago was instrumental behind Bayern’s continental treble. The 29-year-old produced some excellent displays especially in the Champions League finals against PSG, where Liverpool emerged as the winners.

Meanwhile, Klopp has stated that he would not be spending big in the summer transfer window unlike the rival clubs Chelsea and Manchester City. The Reds have only signed Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas thus far in the transfer window, and Thiago will be their second.

The Reds midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has been linked with a move to Barcelona, but recent reports suggest that the Dutchman is happy continuing at Anfield and is expected to sign a new contract sooner. It was reported earlier that Thiago’s arrival would complicate Wijnaldum’s presence at the club.

Manchester United were said to be in the race for the Spanish midfielder, but Liverpool have turned out as the winners.

Thiago’s addition would be crucial to the Reds who will be defending their Premier League title this season, and they are off to a winning start after defeating Leeds United 4-3.
