Bayern Munich are Champions League Winners

Kingsley Coman goal is enough to win 1-0. Neymar and Mbappe flop in the final as Bavarians press gaming is too much for PSG.

Arsene Wenger once said that in a Champions League game if you lose the midfield you lose the game and that’s exactly what happened in the game between Bayern Munich and PSG. Though Thomas Tuchel knew that his midfield was weak he did step his team to counter-attack.

The Parisians had better chances than Bayern especially Mbappe but the Frenchman missed them badly. The mentally of the Ligue 1 side was questioned when Neymar came into the game with a big speaker and the way they celebrated the semi-final win. Tuchel’s decision to bring on Choupo Moting instead of Icardi was also questionable. While for Hansi Flick it has been a dream. The German joined the club as an assistant to Niko Kovac but he has now managed to win the treble for the Bavarians. This is Bayern Munich’s sixth Champions League in their history and their second treble as well.

1st Half

The final match of the Champions League was very tense initially as both times took some time to settle into the game. Bayern Munich wanted to press high while PSG looked to exploit Bayern Munich’s high line. It was actually the French side who had the first chance of the game only for Neuer to deny Neymar. The Germans were struggling to create chances. Lewandowski had one chance when his shot hit the post.

After that, the game opened up a little bit and both teams had good chances but they failed to convert anyone of them. During the first half, a lot of tension could be felt within both the teams as the game progressed. The best chance of the game came to Mbappe. The Frenchman received a cut back from Di Maria and he was within less than two yards. Despite this, he shot was straight at Neuer without any power. After that, the first half finished 0-0.

2nd Half

There was no glimmer of a goal as both sides locked horn in the second half. Bayern dominated the game and tried to press. While PSG looked to hit on the counter. The Parisians had dropped a bit of intensity while the Bavarians were still energetic and hungry. In the 58th minute, it affected the game as PSG were not quick enough to close down Joshua Kimmich. The German delivered an inch-perfect cross for Coman. The Frenchman headed the ball in to score against his former club.

After that goal, PSG tried to come into the game a bit. Neymar started to drop deep. While Verratti also came on for an injured Parades. Mbappe and Marquinhos had good chances but failed to convert them. Tuchel decided to bring on Choupo Moting but the former Stoke City man failed to have an impact on the game.

PSG were struggling to play from the back and they could not get the ball to their target man as well. The Bundesliga Champions looked determined on the ball and they did not allow Neymar to run the game. In injury time PSG had their final chance when Mbappe and Neymar combined but Moting could not provide the finishing touch. After that chance, the PSG players had accepted their defeat and the Bayern won the Champions League.

PSG vs Bayern Munich 0-1 Post Match

It was a bitter blow for Thomas Tuchel who was actually let down by his players. He got the tactics right but the team failed to implement his game plan. After the game, he said:

A big fight for me, a big big fight for me between two strong sides, very equal sides. More possession for Bayern, a bit more confidence on the ball, a bit more of that for them. We had two opportunities to score it was decisive, I had a feeling that the first goal will decide the match”.
