Manchester United are interested in signing Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui this summer.
The Morocco international, 26, is one of the right-back options being considered by the Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, having coached him previously at Ajax. Interest in the player comes owing to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s links with West Ham United, who are also understood to be keen on the Bayern Munich star as well.
Wan-Bissaka, who signed for Manchester United from Crystal Palace in 2019, has entered the final year of his deal. He lost his first-team spot to Diogo Dalot last season and Man United are now open to cashing him in. They are looking to sell the 26-year-old and get a fee rather than lose him on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.
Noussair Mazraoui has emerged as a strong option to potentially replace Wan-Bissaka, with Ten Hag reportedly believing that the right-back can help unlock Antony’s true potential. Mazraoui and Antony combined extremely well on the right flank at Ajax and were integral parts of the title-winning campaigns of 2020-21 and 2021-2022 under Ten Hag’s management.
Erik ten Hag eyeing a reunion with Noussair Mazraoui at Old Trafford
Man United want to bring a new right-back on top of a central defender in this summer transfer window, but must offload Wan-Bissaka first. Mazraoui is one of the names under consideration, with Ten Hag a big admirer of the Moroccan having enjoyed a strong working relationship with him at Ajax.
After spending five trophy-laden years with Ajax, Mazraoui joined Bayern Munich in May 2022. While he has won a Bundesliga title and the DFL-Supercup in two seasons in Germany, the full-back hasn’t managed to contribute much to their success due to injury problems. He was limited to 19 Bundesliga appearances this past season, and the Netherlands-born star’s injury record since arriving at Bayern could be a concern for Man United.
However, Ten Hag believes the Morocco international could be key in aiding Antony’s form at Man United. Antony initially showed great promise at Old Trafford after arriving from Ajax in the summer of 2022, scoring three goals in as many games. However, the diminutive Brazilian has since underwhelmed in England and royally failed to justify his hefty price tag as well as the lofty expectations of the Old Trafford faithful.
Bayern are open to selling Mazraoui for a fee in the region of £21m, something the Red Devils would not hesitate splashing particularly after moving on Wan-Bissaka from their books.
