Tottenham establish contact with Bournemouth to sign Dominic Solanke

Tottenham are interested in signing Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke, as manager Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his strike force for the 2024/25 campaign.

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that the north London club are keen on signing a new striker before the August 30 transfer deadline. He has been forced to use Dejan Kulusevski as a false 9 in the recently concluded pre-season tour due to Richarlison’s injury. This has underlined the need for a new striker at the club, and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke has emerged as a strong option for Tottenham.

Solanke, 26, enjoyed a fantastic 2023/24 season in the Premier League, scoring 19 goals for Bournemouth. He has made steady progress at the Vitality Stadium in the last two years and appears ready for a step-up to a bigger club in the Premier League.

The England youth international has a £65m release clause in his contract. Spurs could reportedly turn to part-exchange offers to bag Solanke’s signature this summer, with many players looking to leave the North London club and a couple of others available on temporary loans.

Bournemouth are braced to lose Solanke amid interest from Spurs and have lined up Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer as a potential replacement.

Dominic Solanke would be a terrific signing for Spurs

Solanke showed great improvement in terms of productivity under Andoni Iraola last season, netting 21 goals across all competitions. His progress at Bournemouth hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Spurs vying for the centre-forward’s signature.

The Lilywhites are yet to replace Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich last summer. Son Heung-min and Richarlison did well to compensate for Kane’s void this past season but moving forward Ange Postecoglou knows the importance of signing an out-and-out No.9. With the club set to compete in Europe, the Greek-Australian tactician could do very well with a new striker in his ranks, especially with young Alejo Veliz attracting interest from Serie A side Fiorentina.

Solanke, in that regard, would be a good fit at Spurs. At 26, the Englishman is about to hit the peak years of his career and Spurs could hugely benefit from his services, provided they manage to agree a deal with Bournemouth. He has the attributes to make an immediate impact for Postecoglou’s side whilst improving the overall depth of the squad.

It will be interesting to see whether Spurs trigger Solanke’s release clause or look for part-exchange offers to sweeten a potential deal.
