Chelsea in pole position to sign Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion

Chelsea are in pole position to sign Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion, as head coach Enzo Maresca plans to bolster his striker force.

Samu Omorodion

The Blues’ goalscoring problems over the last two seasons have been well documented, and regardless of signing Marc Guiu and Omari Kellyman to their ranks earlier in this transfer window, Enzo Maresca remains keen to add more firepower to his attack. With Romelu Lukaku not in the Italian tactician’s plans and desperately wanting to reunite with Antonio Conte at Napoli, the West London club’s desire to add a new striker has further increased.

Atletico Madrid could reportedly allow Samu Omorodion to leave for a fee in the region of £40million this summer if they can sign Manchester City star Julian Alvarez. Should Alvarez make the move from the Etihad Stadium to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Chelsea would be favourites to land Omorodion.

The west London side have already had a £27.4m offer for Omorodion rebuffed by Atletico Madrid earlier this summer but are still keen on his signature. The young Spaniard spent last season on loan at Deportivo Alaves amid a lack of game time at Atletico, netting nine goals and supplying an assist to help them achieve a 10th-place finish in La Liga.

Chelsea agree to sell Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid

After a long-drawn saga, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has agreed to join Atletico Madrid. The Pensioners had agreed to a £33m offer from Atletico last week but there were concerns about whether Gallagher was keen on moving to the Spanish capital. However, on Sunday night, the England international gave the green light to a potential move to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

The 24-year-old, who represented England at the Euro 2024 in Germany, has entered the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. The Blues had offered him a two-year contract extension with an option of an extra 12 months, but the central midfielder rejected it due to the length of the deal and the bit-part squad role offered by the club.

Gallagher has verbally agreed to fly to Madrid to complete his medical and sign the documents with Atletico. Chelsea have supposedly included a buyback clause in the deal should the Spanish side agree to sell the Englishman in the future.
