The Reds still want to bring in an attacking midfielder after their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount failed. They have already signed Argentine World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton to kickstart their midfield rebuild after an ordinary 2022-23 season.

Liverpool have been exploring multiple options to upgrade their midfield unit, with Dominik Szoboszlai of RB Leipzig emerging as a target of late. Szoboszlai, 22, is reportedly high on Liverpool’s list of attacking midfielders and the Merseyside club met with the RB Leipzig star’s representatives this week to explore a potential deal for this summer.

The Reds accept the fact that it may be a difficult deal to do as the Hungary international has a €70 million release clause in his contract but are exploring a deal nonetheless. It is believed, though, any deal to bring Szoboszlai to Anfield would be separate from the one which will see Fabio Carvalho sign for RB Leipzig on loan for the 2023-24 campaign.

Dominik Szoboszlai has been impressive for RB Leipzig

Dominik Szoboszlai has been making a name for himself in the Bundesliga and on the European shores with RB Leipzig, thereby, now attracting interest from a number of top European clubs, including Liverpool. Arsenal and Newcastle United both have been linked to the RB Leipzig attacker over the last few weeks.

Since arriving from Red Bull Salzburg in 2021, the Hungarian ace has registered 20 goals and 22 assists in 91 appearances for RB Leipzig, including 10 goals and 13 assists in 46 outings last season. In terms of productivity, the 2022-23 was his best season where he operated in various positions across the midfield.

Whilst Szoboszlai is a No.10 by trade, he has proven his versatility in the last couple of years in the Bundesliga by operating in a number of attacking positions, with the majority of his football this past season being played on the right flank—both domestically and in the Champions League. The Hungary international’s ability to play in various roles in midfield and attack offers Jurgen Klopp a player who will not only add quality to his first XI but also depth in many positions in the Liverpool squad.

Klopp is widely renowned for his reputation for nurturing young players and transforming them into world-class talents, and Szoboszlai could be that next player. Boasting some incredible numbers at Leipzig, the ex-Salzburg man has the qualities to thrive in Klopp’s high-octane, pressing system and entertain the Kop.

With that being said, the signing of Szoboszlai would be a major coup for the Reds as the creative midfielder’s vision, dynamism, shooting, set-piece prowess and goal-scoring ability could significantly improve performances in Klopp’s team next season.
