Tottenham Hotspur establish contact with Feyenoord for Santiago Gimenez

Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a summer move for coveted Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

Santiago Gimenez

Santiago Gimenez, 22, has become a goal-scoring phenomenon in the Netherlands since his move from Argentina in 2022. After banging 28 goals in his debut campaign for Feyenoord last season, he has already netted 24 goals thus far this campaign. With 21 goals in 28 league appearances, the 22-year-old currently sits third in the Eredivisie scoring charts.

The Argentina-born Mexico international’s prowess in front of goal and massive impact in the Eredivisie has drawn attention from clubs across Europe. Despite being under contract until 2028, the 22-year-old’s future at Feyenoord remains unclear.

Now, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made Gimenez their No.1 target heading into the summer transfer window. The Lilywhites have been in contact with Feyenoord for weeks over a possible swoop for the 22-year-old goal-machine, who has also been linked with a move to Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid.

Tottenham make Santiago Gimenez’s signing a ‘priority’

Santiago Gimenez was instrumental in helping Feyenoord win the league title last season under the tutelage of Arne Slot. With Feyenoord second in the standings, nine points behind league leaders PSV Eindhoven, Arne Slot’s side remain in the hunt for a league and cup double.

Given back-to-back stellar campaigns in the Netherlands, a player of Gimenez’s quality and potential is set to have a lot of suitors heading into the summer window. Keeping that in mind, Tottenham have ramped up their interest in the Mexican. The north Londoners currently have Richarlison and Son Heung-min as their striker options and are looking to splash big on a new centre-forward to fill the big void left behind by Harry Kane. Thus, they have made the signing of Gimenez a priority before the 2024/25 campaign commences.

Having performed exceptionally well in the Eredivisie, Gimenez will be hoping to compete at the highest level and the opportunity to move to a Spurs side playing an entertaining brand of football under Ange Postecoglou will be an attractive proposition for him. The 22-year-old’s rollicking form has seen his transfer value rise to over €30 million, and paying that fee shouldn’t be a problem for Spurs.

It will be interesting to see how Gimenez finishes the season. Given his quality in front of goal but also selfless attitude, creativity and work ethic, Tottenham would do well to secure his service in the summer.
