Man United and Liverpool to hold talks with Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister

Manchester United and Liverpool are set to hold talks with Alexis Mac Allister with the World Cup winner certain to leave Brighton at the end of the season.

Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton and Hove Albion)

Alexis Mac Allister, 24, has been at Brighton since 2019 following a move from Argentinean side Argentines Juniors. He signed a new contract with the Seagulls before lifting the 2022 World Cup with Argentina in Qatar, and the central midfielder’s performances over the course of the campaign have caught the attention of many clubs. There is optimism the Argentina international will leave the Amex Stadium in the summer as he looks to make the next big step in his career.

Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly interested in securing Mac Allister’s signature, with both clubs planning to hold a meeting with his representatives soon.

Erik ten Hag planning changes to Man United’s midfield

Manchester United’s potential takeover has hit a snag of late and it remains to be seen how much spending power Erik ten Hag will have during the summer transfer window.

Ten Hag has enjoyed a solid first season at Man United, ending the club’s six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup in February. His team are also alive in the Europa League and the FA Cup competitions.

The Dutch tactician wants to bring in a world-class striker to lead Man United’s attack next season. In addition, he is looking for a central midfielder to compete with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Fred. Ten Hag is seemingly interested in Alexis Mac Allister and he will have a chance to watch him closely on Sunday when United face Brighton in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley Stadium.

Reinforcing midfield unit priority for Liverpool

Liverpool have endured a difficult season and faces an uphill task to finish in the top four. So, it is very clear major changes will be required throughout the squad.

Jurgen Klopp has decided to make midfield his priority in this summer transfer window, with the likes of James Milner, Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho no longer appearing as ideal long-term options for the Reds. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are coming to the end of their contracts in June and are set to leave the club.

Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool. The creative box-to-box midfielder has enjoyed a strong 2022/23 season, registering eight goals and an assist in 26 Premier League games. The Argentina international is only 24 and would represent a long-term option for the Reds if they manage to beat Man United to his signature.

Mac Allister has apparently made it clear to Brighton that he wants to leave at the end of the season. However, he is unlikely to come cheap for both Man United and Liverpool.
