Chelsea scout AS Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi

Chelsea have sent scouts to watch AS Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi ahead of a potential summer swoop.

Axel Disasi

Axel Disasi, 25, became a household name in French football after his strong performances for Stade Reims. That resulted in a move to AS Monaco in the summer of 2020, and the centre-back has since gone from strength to strength and established himself as a valuable first-team player at the club.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2022/23 campaign for Monaco, registering three goals and as many assists in 30 Ligue 1 games. Disasi’s performances in Monaco colours led to a late call-up to the French national squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The France international’s reputation has enhanced of late and many clubs across Europe are battling for his signature. Apart from Chelsea, Manchester City also reportedly scouted Disasi during Monaco’s draw with FC Nantes over the weekend. Disasi, under contract at Monaco until 2025, has expressed his desire to move on from the Principality club in order to remain in the France national team.

Chelsea set to raid AS Monaco again?

Chelsea signed multiple defenders in the last two transfer windows to address their problems at the back. One of those to arrive at Stamford Bridge in January was Benoit Badiashile, who has adapted well to the demands of Premier League football. Yet, the Blues could splash again in the transfer market for a quality central defender.

Thiago Silva is in the twilight of his career and last summer’s signing Kalidou Koulibaly has failed to live up to his high reputation. Wesley Fofana has been unfortunate with injuries since arriving at the club from Leicester City last year, so the chances of Chelsea targeting a centre-half at the end of the season are high.

Axel Disasi has emerged as a potential target for Chelsea. Disasi has proven to be a reliable defender in Ligue 1 over the years, and at 25 he appears to be in the right age bracket to look for a move elsewhere in a bid to keep his place in the French squad. In addition to his defensive skills, the Frenchman has also caught the eye with his leadership qualities at the Principality Stadium.

Chelsea have scouted Disasi and seemingly like what they have seen of the Monaco defender. And with Disasi recently expressing his admiration for the Premier League, it won’t be a surprise if Chelsea raid Monaco again and go all out for his services during the summer transfer window.
