Manchester United are set to battle Brighton and Hove Albion for the signing of Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, 25, has enjoyed a fantastic season in the Championship, registering 10 goals and 12 assists in 36 appearances for Leicester City. He has shone consistently and played a huge role in the Foxes’ push for promotion at the first time of asking. Unfortunately for both the midfielder and the club, promotion isn’t guaranteed at this moment in time with Leeds United and Ipswich Town threatening to knock Leicester City out of the automatic promotion spots.
But Dewsbury-Hall looks primed to play in the Premier League next season, whether his team gets promoted or not. The creative midfielder is arguably the Foxes’ most prized asset following the departures of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes to Tottenham and Newcastle United respectively last summer, and the Championship club are in dire need of raising substantial funds to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules before the end of June.
Manchester United and Brighton have reportedly set their sights on Dewsbury-Hall with the possibility of securing his signature at a bargain £25 million if Enzo Maresca’s Leicester side fails in their bid for promotion to the top flight.
Man United, Brighton eye Dewsbury-Hall
Due to a crunch financial situation, Leicester may be forced to part ways with their star man Dewsbury-Hall if the promotion bid falls flat. The Midlands club rejected a £20m bid from Brighton in January as they valued him at £45m then. The Championship side ideally want to keep hold of the 25-year-old, who hopes to break into the England squad and has European ambitions.
Brighton are readying to revive their interest in Dewsbury-Hall this summer and would sweeten their offer. But the Seagulls could face competition from Manchester United, and exploratory talks have already been held with the player’s entourage. The Red Devils could view the Englishman as a valuable asset who could add value to the midfield, especially with uncertainties surrounding the futures of Casemiro, Sofyan Amrabat and Christian Eriksen at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Brighton’s interest in Dewsbury-Hall indicates their promise to bolster their talented squad, and the appeal of European football could be a decisive factor for the creative midfielder. The 25-year-old has decent experience playing in the top flight, clocking 59 appearances, while he has also played in the Europa League and Conference League.
It will be interesting to see where Dewsbury-Hall plays during the 2024/25 season.
