Chelsea have reached an agreement with Leicester City over a £30m deal for midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The Englishman is reportedly set to have a medical at the West London club and will put pen to paper on a deal until 2030.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, 25, was a key player for Leicester City last season, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further 14 times in 44 Championship appearances, leading to him being named the club’s Player of the Season. He enjoyed a fantastic season as the Foxes won the Championship title and automatic promotion at the first time of asking under Enzo Maresca, who has since left the King Power Stadium to become the Chelsea manager.
There had been talks about players being included in the deal for the former England youth international, who rejected a move to Brighton last week to reunite with Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge. However, Leicester will instead aim to sign teenager Michael Golding once Dewsbury-Hall’s deal goes through.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall set to be reunited with Enzo Maresca
New Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is starting to make an impression on the squad that he inherited from Mauricio Pochettino. He has planned some concrete moves in the market, with one of those being the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester.
The Italian tactician was aware that the Foxes consider Dewsbury-Hall a sellable quantity due to the newly promoted club’s pressure to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules before June 30. The 25-year-old Englishman would add energy, dynamism, creativity and goalscoring ability to the Chelsea midfield, whilst improving the depth of the squad.
The potential addition of the Leicester star would lead to the Blues offloading a couple of their midfield talents. Carney Chukwuemeka has been linked with a move to AC Milan, while the Blues could cash in on Conor Gallagher as his terms expire in 12 months. In addition, youngster Andrey Santos could again go out on loan.
A move to Chelsea would allow Dewsbury-Hall to play at the highest level, and if he continues performing like he did at the King Power Stadium, he could be knocking on the England door.
