West Ham United rival Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of Union SG striker Mohamed Amoura

West Ham United are set to rival Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Union Saint-Gilloise striker Mohamed Amoura in the summer transfer window.

Mohamed Amoura

Mohamed Amoura, 23, has been sensational this campaign, netting 22 goals across all competitions whilst supplying six assists. The Algerian striker, who has a contract with Union SG until 2027, has proven himself in the Belgium Pro League and could fancy a move to the Premier League before the 2024/25 season commences.

The 23-year-old’s goalscoring prowess for the Belgian outfit has caught the attention of several clubs across Europe. From the Premier League, West Ham United and Tottenham have reportedly registered their interest in Amoura. Competition for the Union SG centre-forward is fierce, with Wolverhampton Wanderers also keen.

Mohamed Amoura expected to secure big move in the summer

Mohamed Amoura has been instrumental in Union SG’s surge to the top of the Belgian Pro League table. He has been decorating the Belgian top-flight with different kinds of goals this season, and further along the road, Union SG are making post-Amoura plans, knowing that, as one of the hottest young prospects, he may no longer be a part of the team next season.

Tottenham are looking to add depth to their offensive unit as they still don’t have sufficient backup for Son Heung-min following Harry Kane’s transfer to Bayern Munich last summer. They chose not to bring in a like-for-like replacement for Kane and instead signed wide forward Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest, leaving Son and Richarlison to shoulder the burden of scoring goals this term. So, the club’s interest in Amoura is logical as signing the Algerian will bring competition and cover for Son and Richarlison.

Meanwhile, West Ham boss David Moyes has Michail Antonio and Danny Ings at his disposal—two ageing striker options. Given their fitness, form and age, the Hammers must bring in upgrades in the summer. Signing Amoura could transform Moyes’ side in the final third, bringing goals, pace and energy to the attack. His versatility to operate out wide would enhance West Ham’s squad too.

Amoura would be a quality long-term investment for both Premier League clubs. Still, Spurs could get an edge over their London rivals West Ham if they secure Champions League qualification for next season. Nonetheless, given the Algerian sensation has a contract until 2027, Union SG will not allow him to leave for cheap when the transfer window reopens.
