Everton are plotting a double swoop for Leeds United attacking duo Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville.
Leeds United are braced for a clearout following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2022-23 season. Both Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville have been linked with moves away from Elland Road. Sevilla and Feyenoord have been credited with an interest in Summerville, while Gnonto has been attracting interest from Italy.
Everton are the latest club to show an interest in the Whites’ pair, although Gnonto will reportedly not be allowed to leave this summer as Leeds look to compete well in the Championship and return to the top flight at the first time of asking.
Everton boss Sean Dyche desperately seeking attacking reinforcements
Everton narrowly avoided relegation for the second season running, with the Merseyside outfit keeping their top-flight status intact following a 1-0 home victory over Bournemouth on the final day of the 2022-23 campaign. Sean Dyche, who guided Everton to safety, will hope to receive significant backing from the board to rebuild his squad during the ongoing transfer window.
The Toffees boss is unsurprisingly targeting attacking reinforcements this summer after his team’s royal struggles in front of goal. They were the second-lowest scorers (34) in the division, with a lack of goal contributions from the forwards leading Everton to narrowly escape from the jaws of relegation for another term.
Everton lost both Richarlison and Anthony Gordon in the last 12 months, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in and out of the team due to recurrent hamstring problems. Expectations from the fans were high when Neal Maupay swapped Brighton last summer but he has proven a disastrous addition, managing just one goal in 29 appearances. And with Demarai Gray attracting interest from Saudi club Al-Hilal and two Premier League sides, Dyche knows he must bring in quality attackers if his side are to avoid a relegation dogfight for the third successive season.
Thus, Everton’s interest in Leeds’ attacking pair Gnonto and Summerville makes sense. Gnonto and Summerville both will add pace, energy and dynamism to the Toffees’ attack, whilst being upgrades on Gray and Maupay. With 12-goal contributions between them, the duo demonstrated an eye for goal as well as the ability to create opportunities in the final third.
With that being said, Dyche could go a long way in solving Everton’s problems in front of goal by bringing in both Gnonto and Summerville from Leeds.
