Barcelona have prepared a four-man alternative list in case they are unable to sign Erling Haaland.

Barcelona have been linked with Haaland

Barcelona have been linked with Erling Haaland. It is no secret. Club president Joan Laporta has made the signing of Erling Haaland his absolute priority for the next term. The club wants to be back competing for major trophies next term and the Sporting department believes that Barca needs a pure goal-scorer like Haaland.

Moreover, if Barca can manage to sign Haaland, it would also send out the message that they still remain as one of the heavyweights in the transfer market and have the pull to attract major talents. That said, it is not going to be easy for the Blaugrana. The Norweigan striker has also been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea. In fact, his staying put at Borussia Dortmund is not completely ruled out either though it is unlikely that he will stay for the next term. Real Madrid and Manchester City are considered to be the frontrunners to sign the 21-year-old.

Barcelona cannot compete with Manchester City and Real Madrid

While Xavi’s side can offer Haaland one of the best sporting projects there are, the same cannot be said about the finances. Many have argued that Mino Raiola’s demands for his client are a bit too excessive, considering that he has not won anything major yet. His statistics though, do suggest that he is one of the best strikers in the making. In 79 appearances for Dortmund, Haaland has managed to score 80 goals and has also assisted on 21 occasions. These are some serious numbers.

Barcelona are said to have offered €20 million in wages to Haaland (per season) in addition to the signing-on bonuses and other rewards. Real Madrid and Manchester City are said to be prepared to break the bank for Haaland as well. Both Madrid and City are in a much better position than Barca (financially) and are prepared to make a lucrative offer to the 21-year-old. Some reports are also suggesting that Haaland already has an agreement in place with Manchester City.

Barcelona draw a four-man shortlist

Faced with the realistic possibility of them not being able to sign Haaland, Barca have come up with a four-man shortlist. Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Patrik Shick, and Raphael Laeo are said to be the club’s preferred alternatives to Erling Haaland.

This comes as per the reliable Spanish journalist, Fernando Polo

Barcelona need a quality, long-term striker. They have not been able to replace club legend Luis Suarez and will be eager to do so next summer. They have also been linked with Joao Felix and he could emerge as a serious target if Atleit fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

As it stands though, Haaland is still very much the priority for Barcelona. Barca’s only hope may lie in the possible fact that the player prefers a move to Spain over England. Their sporting project looks exciting and is full of young players running the show for Xavi. All of Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City have the best sporting projects in the making and thus in the end it could all boil down to who offers the most money.
