The deal could also prompt Edinson Cavani to join the La Liga side.

PSG are reportedly considering a swoop for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, whose position is in jeopardy following the arrival of Luis Suarez. Meanwhile, Atletico are looking to sign the free agent and former PSG player Edinson Cavani should they offload Costa.

Paris-St Germain are looking for attacking reinforcements following the departure of Edinson Cavani. Meanwhile, Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting, who has been a free agent since his deal expired last month, has reportedly rejected a new deal from Les Parisiens.

Thomas Tuchel has only Mauro Icardi as the striker option, who made his switch permanent months ago. However, the Argentine striker looks to be still unfavored by Tuchel after getting dropped in the knockout stages of the Champions League last season – although his performances were impressive throughout the season.

Icardi has featured in the last two games of Ligue 1 this season after recovering from Coronavirus.

Elsewhere, Atletico are keen to offload Costa and instead sign Cavani on a free transfer – aiming for Suarez-Cavani partnership. Costa has suffered a dip in his performances in his second spell with the Colchoneros.

Furthermore, Suarez’s arrival from Barcelona, to replace Alvaro Morata, who joined Juventus on loan, has spurred further doubt’s on Costa’s future at Wanda Metropolitano.

Diego Simeone also commented about the Spaniard’s future after the goalless draw against Huesca, stating that anything could happen before the transfer window. Similarly, the 31-year-old also stated his uncertainty over his future with the Colchoneros, with his contract expiring next summer.

Atletico’s target Cavani has also reportedly held talks with Manchester United over a potential deal.

Tuchel has also recently spoken about PSG’s transfer plans, stating that he is hoping for new faces in the transfer window.

Yes, we are looking for a central defender or a midfielder, or even both,” Tuchel said. “We have lost four players and we have recovered Florenzi so far. So yes we have to recruit, especially if we want to accomplish our goals.”

As far as the interest in Costa is concerned, PSG will be required to pay a certain transfer fee and Atletico also expected to let him go for a relatively lesser amount given the prevailing financial crisis.

While the former Chelsea striker is far off from his best, he can still be a handy player to the French Champions.
