Manchester United are on the cusp of signing LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro after the Frenchman accepted a contract proposal.
One of the brightest young talents in Europe, Leny Yoro’s future has been up in the air after entering the final year of his contract at Lille. Manchester United have been working hard to convince him to join Erik ten Hag’s forces, but he was firm in his stance of joining European champions Real Madrid. However, the Red Devils’ push to secure the youngster’s signature received a massive boost on Wednesday when he changed his mind and gave the go-ahead to them.
Yoro has travelled to England and is currently undergoing his medical at Manchester United after they reportedly agreed a deal worth over £50m with Lille. They have also agreed on personal terms in principle with the French defender, with the Red Devils now optimistic about getting this deal over the line. Should the teenager sign on the dotted lines, he will become Erik ten Hag’s second summer signing after the arrival of Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna on Sunday.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Leny Yoro has accepted Man United’s proposal
Speaking on his Playback channel on Wednesday afternoon, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano added more on Yoro: “Manchester United have booked the medical for Leny Yoro to do everything very fast, and the medical has been booked today.”
“So, Man United have everything ready for medical tests later today for Leny Yoro, because they want him to sign as soon as possible, they want to make it happen as quickly as possible. They don’t want to lose time.
“Five-year contract, one-year option, exactly the same contract of Joshua Zirkzee, in terms of length, but in terms of salary it is way higher, and also an important commission is part of the story.”
The Red Devils remain in hunt for Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt
Besides trying to quickly get a deal for Yoro over the line, the 20-time English champions are actively working to secure the signing of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt. The Netherlands international has agreed to move to Old Trafford after falling down the defensive pecking order last season, but Man United and Bayern remain far away from agreeing on a fee.
Raphael Varane was released at the end of last season, while Willy Kambwala left to join Spanish side Villarreal last week, which has left Ten Hag short of options in central defence. The Dutch tactician’s side suffered a lot of problems at the back owing to injuries last season and the club wants to address these pressing concerns over the summer transfer window by adding two central defenders.
With Yoro potentially in the bag, United will look to offload one of Victor Lindelof or Harry Maguire and re-invest those funds in bringing De Ligt to the red half of Manchester.
