Tottenham planning to hijack Fulham’s move for Manchester United star Scott McTominay

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for the chase of Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

West Ham United had a £30million bid rejected for the Scotland international last summer. He remained at Old Trafford and enjoyed the most productive campaign of his career, bagging 10 goals and three assists in 43 appearances in all formats. But the Red Devils may be forced to sell him this summer to balance their books and comply with the FFP rules, although Erik ten Hag is keen to keep hold of Scott McTominay.

Fulham have seen a £17million bid rejected for McTominay last week as Man United value him in the region of £40million. Tottenham are now reportedly tracking the player’s situation and planning to hijack London rivals Fulham’s pursuit, with boss Ange Postecoglou an admirer of the 27-year-old’s qualities.

Tottenham open to offers for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso

Tottenham are open to offers for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso this summer. The captures of young talents such as Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall means Hojbjerg and Lo Celso—into the final year of their contracts—are surplus to requirements at N17.

Hojbjerg is attracting interest from Fulham, with boss Marco Silva looking to replace the recently departed Joao Palhinha with the Denmark international. Lo Celso, having arrived from Real Betis in 2019, has fallen out of favour at Spurs in the last two years and Postecoglou wants to offload him ahead of the new season.

Scott McTominay should jump at Tottenham opportunity

With Man United planning to bolster the midfield unit with the potential acquisition of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, McTominay will fall further down the pecking order. The 27-year-old does not have a future at Old Trafford and the Red Devils would ideally like to sell him to make space for midfield reinforcements.

The Scot is an experienced player in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact at Spurs. As an attacking No.8, he would fit in Postecoglou’s system and improve the productivity of his team. Due to his physicality, heading ability and knack for scoring goals, McTominay would bring a different dimension to Spurs.

Tottenham is an exciting project under Postecoglou’s leadership as the north Londoners played some rip-roaring, enterprising and attacking football last season on the way to a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League – which if not for injuries and untimely suspensions could have led to Champions League qualification.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs truly submit an official proposal to Man United for the Lancaster-born star, but McTominay should surely look to jump at the opportunity if they come calling.
