Chelsea monitoring RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko

Chelsea are keeping a close watch on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as they plan to reinforce their attack in the summer.

Benjamin Sesko

The Blues recently lamented the lack of a ruthless striker as they sank to a 1-0 loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. Mauricio Pochettino’s side must sign a clinical goalscorer to improve their productivity next season.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea scouts have been reportedly monitoring the striker’s performances in the Bundesliga this season. The West London club have “always had an eye” on Sesko since his time with Austrian side RB Salzburg.

Sesko, 20, endured a slow start to the season but has picked up form in recent weeks, netting four goals in the last five Bundesliga games. The Slovenia international has netted 11 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions for RB Leipzig, thereby, attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.

Benjamin Sesko could be a terrific signing for Chelsea

It’s of little surprise why Chelsea are courting high-profile names, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggling in 11th in the Premier League.

Scoring goals has been a tough ask for the Blues, with inconsistent Nicolas Jackson managing only nine goals so far this campaign while Christopher Nkunku has barely managed to make an impact due to injury problems. In addition, the likes of Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke and Mykhaylo Mudryk haven’t sufficiently contributed with goals and assists. Chelsea are therefore keen to fix their problems up front with a new acquisition after holding off during the winter window.

That’s led to interest in many top strikers across Europe, as well as the likes of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. Rated among Europe’s top young strikers, Sesko could be an upgrade on Jackson and give Chelsea an element of ruthlessness in front of goal. He is quick, strong, dynamic and can link play well, making him ideal for Pochettino’s system at Stamford Bridge.

The opportunity to join Chelsea and play in the Premier League will be an attractive proposition for the Slovenian forward, and it would be an exciting step up for him too. It is understood Sesko will be available for £42.7million due to a release clause, so the Blues must do everything in their powers to fight off competition from other clubs and get his signature in the summer transfer window to solve their goalscoring woes.
