Wolverhampton Wanderers have intensified their effort to sign Fenerbahce right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel in the summer transfer window.
Bright Osayi-Samuel, 26, has been a reliable performer for Fenerbahce since arriving from Queens Park Rangers in 2021. He has enjoyed a solid season in Turkey, bagging nine goal involvements in 34 games across all competitions. However, the Nigerian international has a contract with the Yellow Canaries until 2025 and has not hidden his desire to return to England in the future.
Wolves have been admirers of the 26-year-old’s talents for some time now. They have reportedly opened negotiations with Fenerbahce for Bright Osayi-Samuel in an attempt to bring him to the Premier League. It is believed that the Wanderers have tabled a €12m bid for the full-back, who is also wanted by Crystal Palace and Leeds United.
Bright Osayi-Samuel eyeing a move to the Premier League
With the 2023/24 season entering its business end, Wolves are in a strong position to finish the season in mid-table.
The Wanderers have enjoyed a solid first season under Gary O’Neil and were once regarded as the outsiders to challenge for European positions. However, a six-game winless run in the Premier League has seen them slip to 12th in the table, seven points behind Newcastle United with four games to spare. A top-half finish is still possible for the Black Country outfit, something that was unthinkable at the beginning of the season following the club’s off-field issues and lack of investment in the transfer window.
Gary O’Neil’s full focus will be on ending the season strongly, but it seems that the club have already started planning for next season, with Fenerbahce’s Bright Osayi-Samuel linked with a move to Molineux.
Osayi-Samuel has earned great experience while plying his trade in Turkey for the last three years, having represented Fenerbahce in the Europa League and Conference League, as well as in Champions League qualifying rounds. The Nigerian helped the Yellow Canaries win the Turkish Cup last season, beating Istanbul Basaksehir in the final.
Having enjoyed his time in the Turkish Super Lig, the 26-year-old would welcome a move to Wolves but will have to be ready for competition. Nelson Semedo has been the undisputable first-choice right-back/wing-back for O’Neil’s side this campaign, starting 32 Premier League games to date, meaning Osayi-Samuel will have to battle with the Portuguese international for a spot in the starting XI.
Despite being a winger by trade, the ex-QPR man has been deployed at right-back for Fenerbahce this season, and he has impressed with three goals and six assists in 34 appearances. With his contract expiring next summer, it now remains to be seen whether Fenerbahce accept the €12m offer made by Wolves or ask for more money.
