Arsenal interested in Emiliano Buendia

Arsenal are interested in Norwich City midfielder Emiliano Buendia and would need to fork out in the region of £40m-£50m to tempt the Championship club into selling their player.

Emiliano Buendia, 24, has been one of the star performers for Norwich City in the Championship this season, scoring seven goals and supplying a further six assists in 21 games. The Canaries are top of the table and wouldn’t want to lose one of their key players in midst of the campaign. They are aiming for Premier League return right away after getting relegated from top-flight last term.

Arsenal, on the other hand, have rediscovered a spark of late after enduring a dismal start to the season. With four victories out of their last five games, Mikel Arteta’s side are currently on the upward curve and find themselves tenth on the table.

Arsenal must replace Mesut Ozil

Arteta has trimmed his squad by allowing the likes of Sead Kolasinac, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, William Saliba and Mesut Ozil to leave this month.

Ozil, 32, who fell out of favour under Arteta, agreed contract settlement with the north London club last week and is close to joining Turkish giants Fenerbahce. The former German international’s departure leaves a huge void in the squad that Arteta should fill this month.

Youngsters Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have injected creativity and energy into Arsenal’s attack, with the latter impressing in the number 10 position of late. Smith Rowe has been in brilliant form across the course of the last month, scoring one and assisting three goals in the process. However, he is just 20 years old and Arteta should manage his game time carefully.

In short, Arsenal must bring in someone a bit older and experienced to compete with the highly talented Smith Rowe.

Buendia fits the bill perfectly

Emi Buendia certainly fits the bill at Arsenal. The Argentinean has been a consistent performer for Norwich City since joining from Getafe in 2018. He was one of the key figures in the Canaries’ promotion to the Premier League and Championship title win in 2018/19 campaign.

While Norwich suffered relegation at the first time of asking, Buendia played 36 out of 38 league games and showed flashes of his quality. With decent top-flight experience under his belt, the time could be ripe for the former Argentinean Under-20 international to take the next big step in his career by joining Arteta’s side.

Given the lack of quality and experience in the number 10 position, Arsenal need players to bolster their attack. And Buendia would bring in quality as well as healthy competition within the squad. In reality, the Gunners’ midfield unit is about steel and industry rather than invention. The inclusion of a player like Buendia, to that end, would go a long way towards solving the north London club’s creativity problems.

At the age of 24, the Norwich playmaker could also represent the Gunners in the long run by learning under the guidance of Arteta. All in all, Arsenal must do everything in their powers to tempt the Canaries into selling one of their prized assets in Buendia in this transfer window.
