Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has criticized fellow teammate Gareth Bale for his stance with the club. The German said that Bale’s situation hasn’t been received well among the team.

Kroos said:

“There is no way to avoid the situation being unsatisfactory for everyone,”

“They certainly didn’t sign him to play as little as he is now.

Toni Kroos also spoke about Bale’s attempt to leave the Santiago Bernabeu last year, with the club reluctant to let him off the hook.

“I think in principle he wanted to leave last summer and that the club said ‘yes’ in principle and then ‘no’ after that.

“I don’t know if he’s still a little angry because of that. It’s a difficult matter.”

Bale had become a fringe figure for the Los Blancos over the past two seasons, and his form was also debilitated as a result – thanks to the injuries and devil-may-care attitude. It was also reported that the Welsh man had a breakout with Zinedine Zidane, who continuously overlooked the former.

However, the French manager denied such happenings but claimed that Los Blancos weren’t against Bale’s transfer.

“I’ll try to be very clear with this, with Gareth. Firstly, I have not disrespected anyone, least of all a player because I always said the same thing, that players are the most important thing, and every time there is a player here I am always with them.

“Secondly, I said the club was trying to get him out. Period.

“Thirdly, the other day Gareth didn’t play because he didn’t want to. He said the club was trying to negotiate his departure and didn’t want to play because of that. So far, Bale hasn’t asked to play tomorrow.”

Bale had hardly featured for Los Blancos in the recently ended La Liga campaign, making only 16 appearances while suffering a calf injury. The 31-year-old was a decent performer for Madrid last term with 14 goals and 7 assists, but couldn’t help his side win any trophies.

One of the best Welsh players has also been linked with a move to his former club Tottenham for a while, with Jose Mourinho interested in taking his services. He was also linked with a move to the Chinese Super League.

Bale’s contract runs until the summer of 2022, and it remains to be seen whether he would honour the contract or try forcing his way out of Bernabeu.
