Now in his fifth season with Valencia after joining them from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, the Portuguese international, 24, has carried the second half of last season’s form into the current campaign, registering two goals and as many assists in eight La Liga games. The winger contributed to nine goals in Valencia’s last 13 La Liga games last term, earning him a place in Fernando Santos’ Portugal squad for the European championships.

Going by his current form, Goncalo Guedes is the most valuable asset at the Mestalla Stadium. Valencia are in financial crisis and could sanction the Portuguese international’s sale next year, provided they get the green signal from coach Pepe Bordalas.

The 24-year-old’s situation at Valencia has alerted Liverpool and Arsenal, as the Premier League duo look to prise Guedes away to England after a promising year that has seen him play arguably his best bit of football in Valencia colours.

Liverpool are likely to have the edge over Arsenal in the pursuit of Guedes due to their regular participation in the Champions League under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool need more depth in the squad

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are breathing fire at the moment, combining well, creating chances for their teammates and scoring goals for fun. Salah, in particular, is in the form of his life and once again showed why he’s called one of the best footballers in the world by producing a magical goal in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

With Virgil van Dijk returning from a serious knee injury, Mane slowly getting back to his best, Salah unplayable at the moment and the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson holding their own in midfield, the Reds are one of the genuine contenders for the Premier League title this season.

If Klopp can keep his key players fit and firing throughout the campaign, the title may head back to Merseyside after a year in Manchester, but if he can’t, the Reds will crumble again just like last season. Thus, the German coach needs to try and beef up his squad in January, particularly after buying just one player in the summer transfer window.

Goncalo Guedes would be a smart addition to the Reds’ attacking ranks

If there is one department to be strengthened, it would be the attack with Liverpool lacking strength in depth beyond Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Salah and Mane. In that regard, Valencia’s Goncalo Guedes would be a good choice for the Reds to add to their already powerful attack.

Predominantly a left-winger by trade, Guedes has shown his ability to play as a centre-forward this season and such versatility would no doubt appeal to the Reds boss. With his burst of pace, vision to thread through balls and link play in and around the box, the Portuguese can add more zest and variety to the Liverpool attack while bringing competition within the squad.

Set to turn 25 next month, the former Benfica man is a huge talent and is at the right age to make the jump from La Liga to the Premier League. Under Klopp, Guedes could unlock his true potential and add to his 26 international caps.

All in all, the Portuguese star can flourish at Anfield, thus, making his signing a priority for Liverpool in the winter transfer window.
