Juventus shortlist two strikers including Manchester United target

The Old Lady are looking to add more strength to the attack next season.

New head coach of Juventus Maurizio Sarri and president Andrea Agnelli

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Juventus have reportedly joined Manchester United in the transfer race for Wolves striker Raul Jimenez, who is having an incredible season in the Premier League this term. The report also adds that Bianconeri have identified Arsenal frontman Alexandre Lacazette should they fail to sign Jimenez. Likewise, Man Utd are in the transfer market for a new striker as they have been linked with names like Andrea Belotti and Federico Chiesa.

Maurizio Sarri wants to reinforce the attacking line up as Gonzalo Higuain has been linked with an exit from Turin and Cristiano Ronaldo will turn 36 next year, leading to Paulo Dybala as the only dynamic option in the attack. Arkadiusz Milik of Napoli is said to be on the top of Sarri’s wishlist, but the Italian manager is expected to face heavy competition from Atletico Madrid. Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus is another name Juve are keeping tabs on.

Raul Jimenez

The 29-year-old is one of the hottest strikers in Europe at present following his stellar campaign with Wolves, who are clinging on to earn a Champions League qualification. Unlike his early years, Jimenez has found a new life under Nuno Santo, having scored a flurry of goals and assist in the past two seasons. In the ongoing season, the former Benfica man has garnered 26 goals and 10 assists in all competitions – no wonder he is being tracked by Real Madrid. Jimenez’s frightening build could give the impression of an ideal target man, but his skills are past that. His aerial ability, dribbling prowess and interplay makes him a complete forward; hence, Juventus would benefit a lot from his signing. While being a sought-after striker, Wolves are likely to ask €100 m for Jimenez from whomever the club approaches.

Earlier it was reported that Juve have proposed a player plus cash deal involving Douglas Costa in exchange for Jimenez.

Alexandre Lacazette

The French man had a rough start to the season owing to injuries but has regained his form of late, scoring in the games against Liverpool, Spurs and Wolves. The 29-year-old has scored 12 goals and 6 assists in all competitions this season, and he turns out to be vital cog under Mikel Arteta. The former Lyon striker is quite an intelligent striker, often operating in deeper positions to encourage interplay. Lacazette is also on the transfer wishlist of Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

Juve have recently signed Arthur from FC Barcelona in exchange for Miralem Pjanic, which indicates they are heading in the right direction in the transfer market. They are also closing in on winning Scudetto this season as they are currently five points clear of the second-place Inter Milan.
