Manchester United willing to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele

Manchester United are eager to sign Barcelona contract rebel Ousmane Dembele before Monday’s transfer deadline day.

The France international, 24, has been long linked with a move to Old Trafford but this time a move could really materialise, with interim boss Ralf Rangnick apparently an admirer of the player. The fleet-footed winger has been at Barcelona ever since arriving from Borussia Dortmund back in the summer of 2017.

But with his contract up at the end of the season and he is yet to pen a new deal, Barcelona are ready to cut ties with Ousmane Dembele and earn a loan fee in the ongoing transfer window rather than losing him on a free transfer. It has been made clear to Dembele that he will be offloaded following his reluctance to commit his future at Camp Nou.

And Manchester United have shown an interest in signing the 2018 World Cup winner, although it remains unclear whether they want to sign him on loan or permanently before the transfer window slams shut.

The Red Devils aren’t the only club to have been linked with Dembele amid the issues surrounding him at Barcelona. Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain are also on the list of suitors pursuing the 24-year-old.

Ousmane Dembele could potentially arrive as Anthony Martial replacement

Manchester United allowed Anthony Martial to join Sevilla on loan for the remainder of the season after the forward had expressed his desire to leave the club for regular game time elsewhere. The Frenchman was reduced to a bit-part role this season after the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho in the past summer transfer window.

At Sevilla, Martial will be looking to revive his career and get into Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the World Cup in Qatar later this year. The 26-year-old’s departure has left space in Rangnick’s squad, which Ousmane Dembele could fill in.

Is Dembele the right fit at Man United?

Dembele has failed to live up to the high expectations of the Camp Nou faithful as well as his hefty price tag after joining Barcelona as a possible long-term replacement for Neymar.  A spate of injuries, fitness concerns, poor form and attitude problems have pulled him back from realising his true potential throughout his Barcelona career so far.

The 24-year-old’s four-and-a-half-years spell with the Catalan giants seems to be drawing to a close in a bitter way. However, as the Frenchman is still only 24, he has time to get back his career on track and a move to Man United could work wonders for him.

A speedy, intelligent and crafty winger, Dembele can play on both flanks and use his ability to cut onto either foot to bamboozle defenders. Due to him being ambipedal, the Frenchman is highly unpredictable when running at players at full tilt. He is an excellent dribbler too and can give Rangnick’s side a different dimension in attack.

Nonetheless, the Red Devils would be wise in signing Dembele on loan with an option to buy from Barcelona to bolster their top-four hopes under Rangnick.
