Newcastle United prepared to intensify efforts to sign Chelsea winger Noni Madueke

Newcastle United are keen on signing Chelsea winger Noni Madueke in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

Noni Madueke

The Magpies’ boss Eddie Howe has been looking for a right-winger since the transfer window opened. After selling Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and Hove Albion owing to PSR issues, he is now only left with Miguel Almiron in that position in his squad. However, with the chance of Miguel Almiron also leaving the club amid interest from Charlotte FC, Howe’s desire to add a new right-winger has increased further.

As a result, Chelsea’s Noni Madueke has emerged as a target for Newcastle United. The Toon Army are now looking to reportedly accelerate their pursuit of the Blues winger, who could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge for £30 million.

Noni Madueke, 22, signed for Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven for £29 million in January 2023. The England under-21 international hasn’t managed to live up to the lofty expectations of the Stamford Bridge faithful due to inconsistency and injury issues, scoring only nine times in 46 appearances thus far.

The arrival of Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers has left the 22-year-old’s future at the club in limbo. But Newcastle are planning to offer Madueke a Premier League lifeline before the transfer window slams shut and the player is open to joining them.

Noni Madueke could be huge upgrade on Miguel Almiron

Charlotte FC are pushing for Miguel Almiron’s signing before the MLS transfer window closes on Wednesday, which puts pressure on both clubs to conclude a deal. The Paraguay international has been a great servant for Newcastle since arriving from Atalanta United in 2019, scoring 30 goals and providing 12 assists across 209 appearances for the club.

However, with Almiron turning 30 earlier in February and his contract at St James’ Park winding down, Newcastle could decide to cash him in during this transfer window and potentially replace him with Madueke.

Madueke certainly has the required tools and top-flight experience to provide Howe’s side with much-needed quality on the right flank. He can be a consistent outlet for goals and assists if given chances regularly to thrive, and under the tutelage of Howe, the youngster can iron out the flaws in his game and develop well.

With time ticking in the transfer window, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle table an appealing proposal for Madueke that convinces Chelsea to sell him.
