Aston Villa star has been linked with a summer exit.
Manchester City are reportedly considering signing Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, with City’s rivals Manchester United also looking keen on him. The report also adds that Grealish’s transfer relies on Leroy Sane’s departure this summer. The German winger is wanted by Bayern Munich, and Cityzens have affixed a price tag worth £50m. City manager Pep Guardiola revealed that Sane is against the idea of continuing with the Sky Blues, which indicates that a summer exit is on the cards.
Guardiola said, (h/t BBC):
City had spoken to Sane “two or three times” about a new deal, and added: “When we make an offer to a player it’s because we want him.
“He has a special quality. We want players who want to play with the club to achieve targets.
“He is a nice guy and I love him so much. I have nothing against – but he wants another adventure.”
Grealish one of the hottest midfielders in Premier League
City’s interest in Grealish doesn’t come as a surprise as he has been a revelation in Premier League this season. Despite Villa’s poor run this season after gaining promotion – Grealish was instrumental behind it – the 24-year-old has put out some impressive numbers, being Villa’s only shining star. The English playmaker has racked up 7 goals and 6 assists this season, although his individualistic brilliance couldn’t prevent Dean Smith’s side from sinking. While Grealish has been highly speculated for the national call up and with Villans being in the relegation zone, there are higher chances for Grealish to seek out a new adventure at the end of this season
Meanwhile, Cityzens will be looking out for a new midfielder in the market as the veteran David Silva is set to leave the Etihad this summer. Grealish fits the bill and has the ability the take the mantle of the Spaniard at City. Guardiola could deploy him as an advanced interior like he always does with Silva and Kevin de Bruyne. His dribbling and ball-carrying abilities will allow him to thrive in the half-spaces; Not to mention his shooting abilities.
Earlier Guardiola also commented about Grealish, saying that he is one of the admirers for his style of play. Hence, the former Barcelona gaffer can take the Villans captain to new heights under his guidance.
Man Utd are the only club reportedly standing in the way for the Sky Blues as Solskjaer is also desperate to bring the young English star to Old Trafford.
There has been speculation around Grealish of late regarding his future as a result of the impact he had in the English top-flight season. He is expected to play a key role in the coming weeks to bail Villa out of the relegation.
