Aston Villa have submitted an official bid for Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.
Moussa Diaby, 24, has been a star performer for Bayer Leverkusen ever since signing from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, registering 49 goals and 48 assists in 172 appearances. Last season, he was among the club’s best performers as the French winger contributed to 17 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances, helping Xabi Alonso’s side qualify for the Europa League with a sixth-placed finish.
Diaby’s performances in the Bundesliga haven’t gone unnoticed, with Aston Villa among the admirers of his talents. The Villans have intensified their efforts to secure the winger’s signature, as several other teams from England, as well as Europe, are also interested. However, they have reportedly had an official bid of €35m plus add-ons for the 24-year-old rejected by Bayer.
Nonetheless, Diaby wants the move to Villa Park and Bayer are aware of it. Bayer have informed the player that he will be allowed to leave this summer in the event that an acceptable offer is tabled to acquire his services.
Moussa Diaby would be a sensational signing for Aston Villa
Having signed Youri Tielemans and Pau Torres so far this summer, Unai Emery would like to now bring in attacking reinforcements to Villa Park. He wants to sign a creative winger who can also operate up front when required.
One of Emi Buendia or Leon Bailey played off the main striker Ollie Watkins last season. Bailey was a huge disappointment in that role, often fading out of games after a positive start. He also struggled with injury problems, and thus, Emery is looking for an upgrade on the Jamaican speedster. Moussa Diaby, in that regard, would be ideal.
Over the years, Diaby has developed a knack for scoring goals. He has been a prolific goalscorer for Bayer in the last two Bundesliga campaigns, and his eye for goals combined with his speed, creativity and dribbling skills, would make him an indispensable asset to Villa’s attack force. The France international’s skill-set and style of play are incredibly well-suited to the fast-paced nature of the Premier League.
With his pace, power and unpredictability, the ex-PSG man would terrorise defences in the Premier League, and in Emery’s system as a right winger or playing off the main striker’s shoulder, he would be rip-roaring to say the least.
In the last two years at Bayer, Diaby has formed an esteemed reputation, becoming one of Europe’s most coveted and sought-after wide attackers. Having agreed to join Emery’s forces, Villa must quickly table an improved second bid and wrap up the Frenchman’s signing.
