Aston Villa plot Arsenal raid for Kieran Tierney

Aston Villa are planning a summer move for Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney, who is currently on loan with Spanish club Real Sociedad.

Kieran-Tierney-Arsenal

Kieran Tierney, 26, joined Real Sociedad on loan in August after falling down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium. Despite struggling with injuries this season as well, he has made 16 appearances for the Spanish side to date, helping Imanol Alguacil’s side to six clean sheets in the process. He has performed well in La Liga, which has encouraged Real Sociedad to sign the left-back on loan again next campaign.

Arsenal, however, are planning to offload Tierney permanently in the summer transfer window as letting him go out on loan will not benefit them. They will reportedly consider offers in the region of € 30 million amid interest from Aston Villa. Celtic are keen on re-signing the Scot, while a few Italian clubs are also keeping tabs on his situation.

Kieran Tierney on Aston Villa’s radar

Kieran Tierney is not part of Mikel Arteta’s plans at Arsenal, so the north London club will try to recoup the £25m fee they paid to Celtic for him back in 2019. The Scotland international has made 124 appearances for Arsenal, making 19 goal contributions.

Aston Villa are presently pushing for Champions League qualification, and they could be a tempting destination for Tierney, who needs to find a permanent home and play regularly at this stage of his career. With Lucas Digne linked with a move away from Villa Park and Alex Moreno set to turn 31 in June, Tierney could be a quality acquisition for Unai Emery’s side.

At 26, the Scot is heading into the peak years of his career and could become a key player for Villa in the coming seasons provided he manages to stay free from injuries. Emery has been in the market for a new left-back for some time now and has several players on his shortlist, including the ex-Celtic star.

It will be interesting to see if the West Midlands club are willing to match the Gunners’ valuation of the player in the coming months. Should they qualify for the Champions League, Villa would have the financial muscle to take a punt on Tierney.
