Aston Villa have entered the transfer race for AS Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante, who is also on Tottenham’s radar.

Bryan Cristante

Tottenham are keen on signing Bryan Cristante following his consistent performances for AS Roma over the years. He has attracted a lot of attention of late, and while Spurs want to have him in their ranks, Aston Villa and West Ham are interested in the midfielder.

Cristante, 28, initially joined AS Roma on loan from Atalanta in 2018 before the deal was made permanent in February 2019. He has been a great servant of the club, featuring in 244 games for Roma and contributing towards 29 goals. The Italy international has been a key cog in Jose Mourinho’s team, and the Roma manager has always trusted him to get the job done. The 28-year-old has played 16 games in all competitions this season, registering two goals and three assists in the process.

Being indispensable to the team, Mourinho would loathe losing Cristante. However, at the same time, the Portuguese tactician knows that the midfielder could leave if Roma get a tempting proposal in January. If any club come up with an offer in excess of €30 million, then the Italian club could reportedly find it difficult to hold onto the 28-year-old.

Bryan Cristante could be a good fit for Aston Villa

Aston Villa are looking to reinforce their midfield unit and they believe Bryan Cristante could be a great fit for them. Primarily a defensive midfielder, Cristante also be used in the middle of the pitch and as a centre-back, and such versatility could be a huge boost for Unai Emery who is looking to build a team that can break into the top four.

The Villa boss wants to add Cristante to his ranks at any cost with the help of managing director Monchi, who was responsible for bringing the defensive midfielder to Roma back in the day. The Italy international’s arrival will give Emery multiple options to work with. As a result, the Villans could put forward an offer in excess of €30 million to sign Cristante in January to boost their hopes of qualifying in the Champions League next term.

With Premier League clubs circling around Cristante, Roma and Mourinho’s priority will be keeping him at the Stadio Olimpico for as long as possible.
