Erik ten Hag’s men have lost back-to-back Premier League games to Fulham and Manchester City. The 3-1 defeat in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday saw them fall 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

The Red Devils’ Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread, nevertheless, Ten Hag and Co. will look to close in on both Aston Villa and Tottenham—who face off on Sunday—with a much-needed victory over Everton, who are on a 10-game winless run in the league.

Manchester United Team News

Manchester United have been handed a much-needed injury boost ahead of the game, with Marcus Rashford spotted training at Carrington on Thursday, despite being withdrawn after 70 minutes in the 3-1 defeat to Man City. Jonny Evans was also taken off in that game as a precaution, and the veteran defender remains doubtful to face Everton.

Rasmus Hojlund and Harry Maguire have missed the last two games with minor issues, and the duo are unlikely to return on Saturday along with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tyrell Malacia and Mason Mount. Meanwhile, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Anthony Martial are long-term absentees for Ten Hag.

Goalkeeper

Andre Onana made some vital saves to keep the scoreline respectable in the derby on Sunday but still ended up conceding three goals. The Cameroonian’s form has improved in recent months and he will be hoping to keep a clean sheet against Everton at home.

Defence

Diogo Dalot has been among the rare bright spots in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Red Devils. He will retain his spot at right-back, with Wan-Bissaka still injured.

With Harry Maguire yet to return to training and Jonny Evans going off with a problem against Man City, Victor Lindelof looks likely to partner Raphael Varane in central defence. Sofyan Amrabat, who was culpable for City’s third goal on Sunday, is expected to operate as a makeshift left-back at the weekend.

Midfield

Kobbie Mainoo, who made his first Premier League start in the reverse fixture against Everton, is primed to continue alongside Casemiro in central midfield. The onus will be on the duo to set the tempo of the game and dominate proceedings, with skipper Bruno Fernandes trying to play those incisive through passes to cut open the Everton backline.

Scott McTominay will drop out of the first XI and join the likes of Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo and Omari Forson on the bench.

Attack

Antony could be recalled into the first XI, despite him failing to make an impact off the bench against Man City on Sunday. He will operate from the right while Alejandro Garnacho hopes to impress off the left.

In Rasmus Hojlund’s injury absence, Marcus Rashford, who scored a wonder goal in the Manchester derby, will lead the attack for Ten Hag’s side. McTominay, Amad and Forson may get involved at some point in the second half.
