Predicted Manchester United lineup vs Everton

Manchester United prepare to resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday with a trip to Goodison Park to face Everton.

Marcus Rashford

The Red Devils are the Premier League’s form team, having won four of their last five, although their performances have left a lot to be desired. They went into the international break off the back of a 1-0 success over Luton Town, thanks to a second-half strike from Victor Lindelof.

Erik ten Hag and his team will be in for a hostile Goodison Park environment when facing Everton, who have dropped to the relegation zone after an independent commission imposed a 10-point penalty for breaching FFP rules.

Manchester United Team News

Manchester United have been boosted by the return of Luke Shaw, who has been missing for three months due to a muscle problem. Andre Onana has shaken off a knock sustained on international duty with Cameroon but Rasmus Hojlund remains touch-and-go for the trip to Everton.

In a fresh injury blow, Mason Mount has suffered a calf injury and is feared to be out for a month, joining the likes of Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez on the sidelined.

Goalkeeper

Andre Onana was injured in Cameroon’s Cameroon’s 3-0 victory over Mauritius in a World Cup qualifier last week but has trained with the squad in the last couple of days. He is set to be in Man United’s goal again, hoping to make it three clean sheets in a row in the Premier League.

Defence

Harry Maguire has been Man United’s best player in recent weeks and deserves to keep his spot in defence. He will be joined by Victor Lindelof in central defence, which should keep Raphael Varane on the bench once again. Maguire and Lindelof must stay focused and look to keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin quiet on Sunday.

Luke Shaw is fit again after three months, although Ten Hag is unlikely to risk the Englishman from the onset. This means Diogo Dalot could get the nod at left-back, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who missed the game against Luton with illness, ought to be restored to the right-back berth.

Midfield

With injuries to Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes is the only guaranteed starter in midfield for the Red Devils. The Portuguese will operate in his preferred No.10 role, with Sofyan Amrabat and Scott McTominay forming the double pivot in the middle of the park.

The trio of Fernandes, Amrabat and McTominay have to be physically robust as well as technically supreme to help United dominate Everton’s midfield. Hannibal Mejbri could come on to add some bite and tenacity to the visitors’ midfield in the second half if needed.

Attack

Uncertainty surrounding Rasmus Hojlund’s fitness means Anthony Martial could be given a rare start to lead the Man United attack, flanked by Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho. In Martial, Rashford and Garnacho, the visitors will have plenty of pace and directness to cause problems for the Everton backline.
