Real Madrid and Barcelona have dominated the Spanish La Liga for many decades. The two teams combined have won 60+ La Liga trophies and counting. It is undoubtedly challenging for any team to compete against these giants in Spain. Many teams try, but they can’t sustain their success for a long time.
As a result, Barcelona and Real Madrid are usually the top picks to win the league. Just like you would make NFL picks and stick to the top teams dominating the league. Therefore, if you’re looking at the Spanish La Liga, Barcelona and Real Madrid are at the top of the list of winners.
However, some seasons produce underdog victories, and we look forward to seeing if the 2022/2023 season will do the same. So, can another team take the league from these two giants? Barcelona’s Drop
FC Barcelona has been on a steady drop for quite some time, and as a result, they’ve been struggling to win the league. After losing Xavi and Iniesta, the team lost their dominance in Europe, and with Neymar going to PSG, it shot the team into a series of bad investments as they searched for a Neymar replacement.
It didn’t work out, and by the end of the 2020/2021 season, they lost the final key player in the squad, Lionel Messi, to PSG. Because of that, the team doesn’t look like they will be competing for the league for a while. However, Xavi, as the new head coach, has some interesting tactics under his sleeve, and I look forward to how he takes the Catalan giants out of their current predicament.
Real Madrid Strength
Real Madrid doesn’t seem to be slowing down, and even after losing Cristiano Ronaldo, the team is still going strong, winning two La Liga titles and one UCL trophy since Ronaldo left four years ago. Even though there have been some bad seasons, the team has found a way to maintain their serial winning mentality.
Of the two top teams in Spain, Real Madrid continues to uphold the status quo, and they remain the team to beat in the league. After winning the UCL last season, they have more than enough motivation to go into the new season, and in the end, they can win the league back-to-back. Therefore, it would be exciting to watch.
Atletico Madrid and Sevilla Overview
Aside from Barcelona and Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid has been putting up a fight, and in the last decade, they’ve won the league twice. Although it isn’t much, it is a good show that they can challenge the crown despite having two incredible giants in the league. Therefore, we continue to watch them as they try to compete with the top teams.
On the other, there is Sevilla, the team that gives their all to ensure they remain top. Although it has been a while since they won the league, Sevilla is a team with the ability to topple the Barcelona-Madrid dynasty. They have a solid squad that is head and shoulder above the rest of the league.
Other Teams That Can Do the Job
The league has 20 teams, and Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two most likely to win the league. Following them closely are Atletico and Sevilla.
These teams continue to fill the top four spots for many seasons, and they are favorites.
However, other than these four teams, we might find others that can do the job. These teams include Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Villareal, and Atletico Bilbao.
In some cases, Valencia has shown that they can push for the league, but they’ve been on a steady fall for a few seasons now. We would love to see which of these teams can win the league aside from the other top four teams.
Our Thoughts
When the league starts, we would love to see how the teams are set up and what odds top sports betting sites would give each of them. With that, we can go with various options, and we think there is more chance for either Barcelona or Real Madrid to win the league; however, we would love to see what underdog can fight for the title.
