Real Madrid edge out Inter Milan, Diogo Jota stars in Liverpool hammering of Atalanta

Real Madrid earned their first win after edging out Inter Milan 3-2 on matchday 3. Liverpool end their jinx in Italy as they thrash Atalanta after Jota scored his first hat-trick. Bayern and Manchester City continued their dominant run.

Group A: Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Salzburg, Lokomotiv Moscow

Bayern Munich have continued their unstoppable form with another emphatic win against Salzburg. In fact, it is a hard-fought win for the defending champions as Salzburg caused serious trouble for almost the longevity of the game. However, a total of four goals in the final quarter by Bayern changed the equation of the game. Lewandowski, Leroy Sane, Lucas Hernandez and Jerome Boateng all made it to the scoresheet.

Lokomotiv Moscow vs Atletico Madrid (1-1): Atletico held to a draw by the Russians

Atletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Lokomotiv Moscow, much to the disappointment of Diego Simeone. Atletico were clearly the better side but their chances went begging all along, thanks to a heroic display from the goalkeeper Guilherme, who was the saviour of Lokomotiv Moscow. Jose Gimenez opened the account for Rojiblancos but it was cancelled out by the hosts a few minutes later. 

Group B: Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Shakhtar Donetsk, Borussia Dortmund

Real Madrid managed to earn their first win against Inter Milan after edging out them with the scoreline 3-2. Los Blancos scored the first two goals but Inter levelled it up at the hour mark. Rodrygo came off the bench to score the winning goal in the 80th minute. Inter were left broken as they failed to hold off the third goal from Los Blancos. Sergio Ramos also reached his 100th goal mark after scoring Madrid’s second goal of the night.

Borussia Monchengladbach couldn’t have asked for a better start in the Champions League this season. After drawing with both Inter Milan and Real Madrid, they have now left Shakhtar in tatters after 6-0 win. Alassane Plea scored a majestic hat-trick while the hosts were left clueless over the course of the game. 

Group C: Manchester City, Marseille, Porto, Olympiacos

Manchester City have registered yet another win in the Champions League against Olympiacos, defeating them 3-0. Ferran Torres scored the opening goal before Gabriel Jesus, who returned from an injury layoff, and Joao Cancelo made it up to the tally.

Porto vs Marseille (3-0): Porto cruise to a thumping win against Marseille

FC Porto have beaten Marseille 3-0 after goals from Moussa Marega, Sergio Oliveira and Luis Diaz. Marseille’s chances look bleak after suffering three defeats out of three games.

Group D: Liverpool, Atalanta, Ajax, Midtjylland

The game which was touted as the most exciting of the night perhaps ended as a one-sided affair, with Liverpool humbling Atalanta at home. Diogo Jota has been in some form of late as he scored his first hat-trick for the Reds. Mohamed Salah and Sadio mane also scored a goal apiece while Atalanta were rocked to taste their own medicine.

Midtjylland vs Ajax (1-2): Antony gets his first UCL goal

Ajax have won their first game of UCL this season after defeating Midtjylland 1-2. Goals from Antony and Dusan Tadic in the first half were enough for the Amsterdam outfit to see off the hosts. Antony’s goal marked his first in the Champions League as he is already turning out to be a revelation in Eredivisie this season.
