Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries wants Manchester United move

Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries wants to leave San Siro for Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

Denzel Dumfries

The Netherlands international, 28, is about to enter the final year of his contract at Inter Milan amid interest from several Premier League clubs. He isn’t pushing to leave the recently-crowned Serie A champions and talks over a new deal are ongoing behind the scenes. However, the full-back’s contract negotiations with the club have seemingly hit a snag.

Denzel Dumfries has been one of the best full-backs in Serie A since joining Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021. He has grown leaps and bounds in the last few seasons, becoming a mainstay in the Nerazzurri’s backline. The Dutchman has clocked 130 appearances for the Serie A giants, chipping in with 10 goals and 20 assists thus far.

However, Dumfries reportedly wants to swap Inter for Manchester United, with the Nerazzurri ready to accelerate his summer sale. They want €25-30 million to let the 28-year-old go.

Manchester United require a new right-back

Manchester United have been troubled by injuries throughout the campaign, thus, impacting their performances on the pitch. Erik ten Hag’s side have dropped to eighth in the table recently, largely due to their awful form caused by the absence of key players.

Under new minority investors Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS, there is going to be a major overhaul this summer. It will be an exciting opportunity for Man United to clear the deadwood and pump fresh blood into the squad after a miserable 2023/24 campaign. Having been defensively all over the place this term, they certainly must strengthen their backline.

The signing of a new right-back to cover and compete with Diogo Dalot is essential as Aaron Wan-Bissaka isn’t good enough to play for a club of Man United’s stature. Thus, it isn’t surprising to see a quality performer like Denzel Dumfries being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Dumfries has proven himself in Serie A, helping Inter win the Serie A, two Coppa Italia and three Super Copa Italiana. He wants to play in the Premier League and join Man United, having previously turned down the chance to play in England for a mid-table club. A move for the Rotterdam-born star will suit the Red Devils as they will get a competent right-back who is a clear upgrade on Wan-Bissaka.

It now remains to be seen whether Man United push for Dumfries’ signing and meet Inter’s valuation in the coming weeks.
