Tottenham turn attention to Villarreal left-back Pervis Estupinan

Tottenham are interested in signing Villarreal left-back Pervis Estupinan, as Antonio Conte continues to build his squad for next season.

Pervis Estupinan

Formerly of Watford, Pervis Estupinan, 24, has been with Villarreal since the summer of 2020, when he arrived at the Estadio de la Ceramica for a fee of around €16 million. The Ecuadorian international has enjoyed rich success working under Unai Emery, who guided Villarreal to the Champions League semi-finals last season.

The 24-year-old, who is a left-back by trade but can play across the defence and further forward in wide areas, made 41 appearances across all competitions this past campaign. Estupinan’s performances have caught the attention of Antonio Conte, who is looking to strengthen his options at wing-back. It is understood Tottenham are weighing up a € 15 million bid for Estupinan, which could be enough for Villarreal to sell.

Spurs have already signed Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, as well as Yves Bissouma, and are closing on a deal for Everton forward Richarlison. They have reached an agreement in principle with Everton over the Brazilian international’s signing, with the north London outfit expected to pay around £50 million and an extra £10 million in add-ons.

Tottenham also want Clement Lenglet

Tottenham are also reportedly working on a deal to sign Barcelona misfit Clement Lenglet on loan for the upcoming season.

Spurs and Barcelona are said to be in “advanced talks”, with AS Roma seemingly dropping their interest after the French centre-back informed the club of his preference to move to the Premier League. Since Spurs are set to compete in the Champions League in the 2022/23 campaign, Lenglet, 27, has his heart set on a move to north London after considering other possibilities.

Pervis Estupinan would boost Spurs’ defensive options

Pervis Estupinan is another name Tottenham have been linked with of late. The 24-year-old has impressed during his time at Villarreal, amassing a total of 74 appearances. He has a European pedigree after heavily featuring in the Yellow Submarine’s dream run to the semi-finals of the Champions League. The left-back also helped Ecuador qualify for the World Cup finals in Qatar this November.

Antonio Conte is looking to solidify his left-sided defensive options as he tries to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title. And Estupinan, in that regard, fits the bill perfectly, with his speed, tenacity, work-rate and versatility sufficient to make him a prized asset at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Ecuadorian’s potential arrival could mean either Sergio Reguilon or Ryan Sessegnon is allowed to leave this summer, with Tottenham showing no lack of ambition in this transfer window regarding welcoming more signings through the front door.
