Tottenham Hotspur planning shock swoop for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial

Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a shock Bosman move for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.

The French international, 28, is set to leave the Red Devils at the end of the campaign when his contract expires. He has endured another injury-hit campaign, clocking just 629 minutes across 19 appearances in all competitions. The forward is on the hunt for a new club and has been linked with Barcelona.

Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing Anthony Martial a few years ago but for some reason, a move didn’t materialise. However, the Lilywhites have reportedly reignited their interest in the Man United forward but will have to fight off interest from Italian heavyweights Juventus.

Juventus wanted to sign Lazio attacker Felipe Anderson once his contract expired in June. However, they missed out as Anderson confirmed that his next destination would be Brazilian side Palmeiras. This has resulted in the Old Lady shifting their focus towards Martial.

Spurs revive interest in Anthony Martial

Tottenham are planning to sign a new striker this summer as they still have not adequately replaced record goalscorer Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich at the start of the 2023/24 campaign. Richarlison and Son Heung-min have done well, but Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou seemingly wants an out-and-out No.9 next term.

Soon to be out of contract at Man United, Anthony Martial has re-emerged as a target for Tottenham which is interesting. The most expensive teenager back in 2015, Martial has failed to live up to his potential during his time at Old Trafford. He has netted 90 goals in 317 appearances for the Red Devils and has been plagued by injury problems and inconsistency for the major part of his time at the club.

Considering the 28-year-old’s fitness issues and lack of availability over the last few years, pursuing Martial doesn’t make much sense. Tottenham will be wary of the Frenchman’s poor form and fitness issues in recent Premier League seasons. But they may take a gamble on him as he is 28 years old, Premier League-proven and will arrive for free.

Martial can be a good option to cover for the likes of Son and Richarlison if he regains his fitness and sharpness in front of goal. Nonetheless, a lot of things have to go right for the ex-AS Monaco man to be a successful signing for Spurs.
