Newcastle United are plotting a summer swoop for Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
Marcelo Brozovic, 30, joined Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 and has since been a consistent performer for the Serie A club, registering 30 goals and 38 assists in 318 games. He has lifted the Serie A title and Coppa Italia during his eight-year spell at San Siro.
However, injuries have hindered the Croatian international this season—managing only 28 appearances across all competitions. Whilst the 30-year-old is back in action now, the sense is that he isn’t performing at the highest level for Inter.
This has led to some tension developing behind the scenes between Inter and Brozovic since the resumption of Serie A after the 2022 World Cup, which could push the player to exit this summer. Newcastle United are reportedly preparing a £31m bid to sign Brozovic but will face competition from Barcelona and Liverpool for his signature.
Newcastle keen to bolster midfield unit with Marcelo Brozovic
Newcastle United are looking ever more likely to qualify for the Champions League, with the 6-1 thumping of Tottenham at the weekend taking them up to third in the Premier League table. From battling relegation at one point last season to challenging for Champions League spots, the Magpies have come a long way.
Eddie Howe deserves huge praise for transforming the club, but he will need to improve the club further in the coming years. Howe will need to assemble a formidable squad capable of challenging for major honours. Newcastle must add more quality and depth to their squad, and a player in the ilk of Marcelo Brozovic would be a good fit.
Brozovic has been a crucial player for Inter over the last few years, and after proving himself in Serie A, he could be tempted to move to the Premier League. The Toon Army are well-placed to secure Champions League football next term and Brozovic will be lured to join a big club in England. Plus, the experienced Croat’s arrival would free up Bruno Guimaraes into a more advanced role in midfield.
All in all, Brozovic has the required qualities Howe would be looking for to bolster Newcastle’s midfield unit. So, the Magpies must try and test Inter’s resolve for the 30-year-old defensive midfielder with a cheeky bid in the summer.
