Manchester United are interested in signing Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez in the summer.
Milos Kerkez, 20, joined Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar last summer for a fee of around £15.5m and has adapted to the demands of the Premier League like a duck to water. The Hungary international has made 19 Premier League appearances thus far, 14 of which have been starts, bagging an assist.
The young left-back’s impressive performances for the Cherries haven’t gone unnoticed. Manchester United have reportedly sent scouts to watch Kerkez in action but could face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea for his signature. The 20-year-old appears to be on the radar of the Red Devils and the Blues, with both clubs likely to recruit a new left-back when the transfer window reopens.
Milos Kerkez could be a top long-term replacement for Luke Shaw
Manchester United’s summer transfer plans under the Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS regime are beginning to take shape and a new left-back appears to be among the priorities.
Luke Shaw is the club’s first-choice left-back but remains seriously injury-prone. The England international has played only 12 times in the Premier League owing to another injury-curtailed season at Old Trafford. He sustained a muscle injury against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road last weekend and has been ruled out for an extended period.
Tyrell Malacia, Shaw’s deputy, has yet to feature this season after undergoing knee operation last year, leaving Erik ten Hag without a recognised left-back in his squad. The Man United manager’s decision to cut short Sergio Regulon’s loan from Tottenham Hotspur during the winter window has come back to bite him, with Victor Lindelof deputising at left-back in the last couple of games.
Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has emerged as a potential target for the Red Devils. The Serbian-born Hungary international has caught the eye during his short stay in the Premier League, with pace, energy, crossing and tackling some of his rich attributes. He is an adventurous left-back/wing-back and has the qualities to become Shaw’s long-term replacement at Man United.
Kerkez signed a long-term contract with Bournemouth in 2023 and his value will have skyrocketed after performing so well in the Premier League. The 20-year-old, who has already played 13 for the Hungary national team and has had plenty of experience in Europe, has a career that looks on the upward trajectory now.
If Man United do make a move for Kerkez in the summer, they must not expect to get him cheaply, with Bournemouth expecting to make a substantial profit on the £15.5m fee they paid Dutch club AZ Alkmaar for him.
