Manchester United have set their sights firmly on Ajax star Mohammed Kudus as one of their main targets in attack this summer but could face competition from Real Madrid.
Mohammed Kudu, 22, has been pulling up trees in the Eredivisie this season, scoring 11 goals and registering a further two assists in 24 appearances. Overall, he has bagged 18 goals and five assists for Ajax so far, and it is easy to see why the attacking midfielder is being linked with some of Europe’s bigwigs so early on in his career.
Real Madrid are the latest club to enter the race for Kudus, who starred for Ghana during the winter World Cup in Qatar last year. He is reportedly one of the players being watched by Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants holding a firm interest in the youngster. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the 22-year-old having signed him for Ajax from Danish club Nordsjælland in 2020.
Erik ten Hag wants to bolster Man United’s attacking unit
Erik ten Hag has done a brilliant job in his first season at Manchester United, guiding them to League Cup success and third in the Premier League table after 26 games. He has made the Red Devils play an attacking and entertaining brand of football while improving many players during his short tenure at Old Trafford.
One of those players to have mightily benefited from Ten Hag’s coaching is Marcus Rashford. The 25-year-old forward is carrying the Man United attack almost singlehandedly this season, scoring 26 goals across all competitions. He has been in electrifying since the league resumed after the World Cup and remains key in United’s quest for a top-four finish.
Behind Rashford, Bruno Fernandes is the team’s next top scorer with eight goals. As a result, Ten Hag is keen to add some extra muscle in attack next season. Apart from a quality No.9, the Dutch tactician also wants to sign a creative midfielder in the summer transfer window to get Bruno Fernandes some cover and competition.
Mohammed Kudus could be a sensational signing for the Red Devils
Mohammed Kudus has been fantastic for Ajax this season, catching the eye with his performances both in domestic and European competitions. He has 18 goals and five assists across all competitions for the Dutch giants while also impressing for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup, where he scored two goals in three games.
Kudus has the ability to play in a variety of attacking positions, which perhaps explains why Ten Hag would want to bring him to Old Trafford. He would bring some much-needed cover for Fernandes whilst enhancing the quality of United’s attack. The Ghanaian is a top talent and would be a sensational addition to Ten Hag’s booming project at Old Trafford.
However, with the money Ajax got from the sales of Antony and Lisandro Martinez last summer, the Eredivisie giants will be aiming of getting a similar fee for Kudus.
