Manchester United considering move for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund

Atalanta starlet Rasmus Hojlund is attracting interest from Manchester United, as Erik ten Hag looks to bring in a striker in the summer transfer window.

Rasmus Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund, 20, joined Atalanta from Sturm Graz in a £15m-deal last summer and he has repaid the faith shown in him by netting eight goals in 25 appearances this campaign. The youngster has enhanced his reputation further by scoring an eye-catching hat-trick in his debut game for Denmark against Finland in the 2024 Euro qualifiers before bagging a brace in the 3-2 defeat to Kazakhstan on Sunday.

Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Hojlund with a view to bidding for him in the summer. The forward is a lifelong Man United fan and revealed that moving to Old Trafford would be a dream. Atalanta are braced for offers at around £23-31 million from Europe’s biggest clubs and will consider cashing in on the recently capped Denmark international.

Is a striker on Man United’s agenda?

Erik ten Hag is targeting a quality striker in the summer that could take Manchester United up to another level next season. Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani are some of the high-profile names linked with a switch to Man United.

The Red Devils have been overly dependent on Marcus Rashford for goals this season. Beyond Rashford, who has been in the form of his life since the Premier League resumed after the World Cup, they have struggled for goals. Wout Weghorst, on loan from Burnley, has managed only two goals while Anthony Martial’s season has been ravaged by injury problems.

So, few could blame Ten Hag for wanting to bring in a new striker as a top priority.

Rasmus Hojlund has a huge ceiling

Man United’s interest in Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund isn’t surprising at all. Hojlund has caught the attention with his all-round performances up top for Atalanta this season. The youngster has the potential to be a world-class striker in Europe and has many Danish fans excited after scoring five goals in two games for the country during the recent 2024 Euro qualifiers.

Ten Hag is aiming to bring Victor Osimhen ahead of the next season as his top signing, and Hojlund could be either the Napoli star’s backup or an alternative should Napoli price the Nigerian out of a move. Hojlund seems like the perfect fit in terms of his age, profile and United’s style of play under Ten Hag. The Dane could form a lethal partnership with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Antony at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.

And the fact that Hojlund is a self-confessed Man United fan should make a summer move to Old Trafford an attractive option for him.
