Jose Mourinho Linked With Tottenham Move

Jose Mourinho, who has been out of a job since being sacked by Manchester United in December 2018 has been linked with a move to Tottenham, as a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino, who has found himself under a lot of criticism following Spurs’ poor start of the season.

It was reported Jose Mourinho has been monitoring the situation at Tottenham, as he looks to find his way back into football management following his departure from Manchester United at the end of 2018. While no official announcements have been made yet, it’s safe to say Mauricio Pochettino is under a lot of pressure following Tottenham’s disastrous start of the season. As it stands now, Tottenham are ninth in the EPL with a 3-2-3 record and 11 points, which, if we put into a perspective is 13 points behind league leaders, Liverpool. On a more positive note, 11 points put Tottenham only five points behind second-placed Man City, which at the first glance is not all that bad. However, it’s the way Tottenham have played and teams they have played against so far that resulted in a lot of unsatisfied faces among Spurs’ fans.

So far into the season, Tottenham have already lost to Newcastle (0:1), Leicester (2:1), Brighton (3:0), Colchester in the EFL (1:0) and who could forget Spurs’ 2:7 defeat against Bayern Munich at the start of October. Looking at the teams which bested Tottenham, it would be fair to say Spurs should have done much better. Which is why it should not come off as a surprise there are speculations suggesting Mauricio Pochettino is close to being shown the doors at the north London club and Mourinho is reportedly ready to jump in and take over.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has been out of work since last December and while the 56-year old has not yet shown any clear indication he is looking to jump back into football management, he has stated he is interested in taking over at the north London club. That being said, Mourinho admitted he is not going to rush back into management in order to secure a role that suits him.

“I have to be patient and wait for the right opportunity,” Mourinho said.

“And the right opportunity is one that is at the same size and the same level that I am as a manager.”

As it was reported, Mourinho was already offered a job at Benfica and Guangzhou Evergrande from the Chinese Super League, as it seems he is looking to find his way back into one of Europe’s top four leagues.

Despite all the speculations and rumours Pochettino could be replaced, it was revealed Tottenham have no intention in parting ways with the 47-year old, who is under contract until 2023. Pochettino admitted there are some challenges that need to be addressed before Spurs can rediscover their form.

“We need to find a way to stay together and be all together again and find a good dynamic,” Pochettino said after the loss to Brighton.

“The point is to try to be positive. The only way you can fight negative energy is to be more positive than it.”

And while there is still time for them to do so, the clock is ticking, seeing how Liverpool are increasing the gap in EPL with each passing week. On top of that, Tottenham have a lot of catching up to do in the UCL campaign as well, where Tottenham sit dead-last in group B after their draw with Olympiacos (2:2) and 2:7 defeat against the German champions.
