Fulham pushing to sign Fiorentina defender Igor Julio

Fulham are interested in signing Fiorentina defender Igor during this transfer window, with the player having expressed an interest to leave the Serie A club this summer.

Igor, 25, was a key member of Fiorentina’s backline this season, racking up 42 appearances across all competitions, including a Coppa Italia and UEFA Europa Conference League final appearance for Vincenzo Italiano’s side. He came off the bench in the Conference League final and was at fault for West Ham’s winning goal in Prague.

The Tuscany-based outfit are keen to keep hold of the Brazilian, who has a contract until the summer of 2024, with the club having the option to extend that deal by further 12 months. However, Igor is looking for a new adventure next season, with his agent Marcelo Mascagni confirming the player’s wish to leave Fiorentina.

“I spoke to Fiorentina about Igor’s future and his desire to leave this summer,” agent Marcelo Mascagni told Violanews.com. (h/t Football Italia)

“The Viola club also agrees. So far, we have not received any official proposals, but we are looking around.”

Fulham are reportedly pushing for Igor’s signature, as Marco Silva looks to strengthen his squad after a successful 2022-23 Premier League season. Fiorentina don’t want to lose Igor on a free transfer in 2024 and are ready to sell him this summer.

Fulham looking to replace Tosin Adarabioyo with Igor

Fulham enjoyed a successful return to the Premier League last year, finishing an impressive 10th and above their West London rivals Chelsea. They were contending for a place in Europe at one point but injuries to key players and suspensions saw Marco Silva’s side lose momentum during the business end of the season and fall short.

Nonetheless, it was a promising season for the Cottagers—one that Marco Silva is looking to build on. The Portuguese manager wants to reinforce his squad, with focus likely to be given on the defence, especially after Tosin Adarabioyo’s wish to leave Fulham amid Tottenham links.

Fiorentina’s Igor has emerged as a target for Fulham to potentially replace Tosin. Igor has impressed for Fiorentina since joining from SPAL in January 2020, racking up 110 appearances so far. Composed on the ball and a tenacious tackler, the Brazilian fits the profile Silva likes at centre-back. He can also operate at left-back when required.

Igor is also only 25 years old, meaning he has many years at the top level still practically ahead of him. He would add robustness to Fulham’s backline while being an ideal partner for Issa Diop next season. Thus, the Cottagers must not waste much time and look to wrap up a deal for Igor.
