Brighton are among a host of Premier League clubs interested in signing Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott.

Bristol City Alex Scott

Alex Scott, 19, has been one of the standout performers in the Championship this season. The youngster has been a real highlight of Bristol City’s campaign, registering a goal and five assists in 40 appearances.

The teenager has established himself as a top talent in the second tier of English football over the last two years, and there is expected to be a transfer scramble for him this summer. Brighton reportedly are monitoring Scott’s situation, with the midfielder keen to leave Bristol City at the end of the season.

Other Premier League clubs such as Newcastle United, Brentford, Leeds United, Liverpool, Everton, Nottingham Forest and newly promoted Sheffield United have all expressed an interest in the England under-20 international. Scott also has admirers from all over Europe – Bologna, Atalanta, RB Leipzig and AS Monaco are all understood to have scouted the player in recent weeks.

Why Brighton should win the race for Alex Scott’s signature?

Brighton have proven to be shrewd customers in the transfer market over the last few windows. Their transfer model is based around buying young talents and developing them. The Sussex club have a number of highly coveted players in their ranks, including Evan Ferguson, Moises Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma, Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister.

Graham Potter did an excellent job at the Amex Stadium as he operated on a shoestring budget, recruited young talents and nurtured them while playing an attractive brand of football. However, Potter was lured by Chelsea when they came calling for his services in the midst of this season last year. Potter’s departure from the Amex Stadium was untimely, but the Seagulls quickly managed to replace him with Roberto de Zerbi.

Roberto de Zerbi has done a fantastic job in a short span of time, helping Brighton challenge for a place in Europe. The Italian has made a great impact in the Premier League with his progressive style of play and management skills, with young guns such as Caicedo, Ferguson, Enciso, Mitoma and Lamptey showing their potential.

Going by Brighton’s rise in the English top flight, Alex Scott would be an ideal fit at the club. Scott has been outstanding for Bristol City and there is no doubt that he is one of the next big things to come from the Championship. He is a quality operator in midfield and would enhance Brighton’s squad.

De Zerbi is overseeing an exciting project at Brighton and a place in Europe next season perhaps becomes a ticket for him to invest more in shaping the squad. In order to build a squad that will challenge for the top four, the Brighton boss has to recruit well in the summer. One of the main things he must do is try and persuade the board to splash the cash on a sublime talent like Scott.

A bidding war is expected to happen in the summer, and if Brighton come calling, Scott must not hesitate to choose them as their next destination.
