Aston Villa consider move for Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams

Aston Villa are among many Premier League clubs interested in signing Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams.

Brighton, West Ham, Nottingham Forest and, in recent weeks, Chelsea have all enquired about the USA skipper, who has been working on his fitness after undergoing hamstring surgery in March. Tyler Adams, 24, was having a solid debut campaign at Elland Road before a hamstring injury saw his season end prematurely. He made 24 Premier League appearances as Leeds United were relegated at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Tyler Adams reportedly has a £25m relegation clause in his current contract with Leeds which Aston Villa are willing to trigger. Having informed their intention to pay the relegation clause, Unai Emery and Co. are now waiting for an answer from the defensive midfielder over his next move.

Tyler Adams would take Aston Villa’s midfield to another level

Aston Villa have already made some exciting moves in the summer transfer window, signing the likes of Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres and Moussa Diaby. Despite signing Tielemans on a free transfer from Leicester City, Unai Emery wants to further reinforce his midfield options for the upcoming season that’ll also include European football.

The Aston Villa boss is wary that Douglas Luiz is a potential target for Spurs, while newly promoted Burnley have enquired about young midfielder Aaron Ramsey. So, signing another midfielder makes sense from Villa’s point of view. In that regard, Tyler Adams is someone who could be an ideal signing for Villa this summer, fitting exactly the right profile Emery is looking to bring in.

At 24, Adams still has room to improve his overall game, hitting his peak years further down the line. The American’s energy, tenacity and intelligence would make him an ideal fit to complement Kamara and Tielemans in the Villa engine room. The ex-RB Leipzig man is also an effective ball-winner and adept with the ball at his feet, which is sure to appeal to Emery.

For Villa to try and break into the top six next season, Emery has to challenge his players and make them compete for their positions in the starting XI. The three signings of Torres, Tielemans and Diaby represent an excellent upgrade to the first team, but the addition of Adams would take Villa’s midfield to another level. Due to his fighting spirit and leadership skills, the USA international is the kind of personality Emery would love to work with at Villa Park.

With the Villans set to battle across four different competitions, signing someone like Adams would not only make a difference to their first XI but also improve their squad depth.
