Arsenal are targeting a summer move for Borussia Dortmund winger Julian Brandt, who has been one of the club’s best performers this campaign.
Julian Brandt, 26, has been on the books of Borussia Dortmund since the summer of 2019 when he joined from rivals Bayer Leverkusen for £22.1 million. He is playing arguably the best football of his Borussia Dortmund career, registering eight goals and four assists in 22 games this season. The German has found the back of the net in each of his last four Bundesliga appearances, helping Dortmund to second in the table.
And his performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with Arsenal and Tottenham set to battle it out for the winger’s signature during the summer transfer window. Arsenal have been reportedly impressed with Brandt’s performances and want to sign him “at all costs”.
Arsenal keeping tabs on Julian Brandt
Arsenal have been terrific this season and currently hold a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. They are establishing themselves as an attractive destination for talented players, with Leandro Trossard, Jorginho and Jakub Kiwior arriving at the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, which Mikel Arteta and co. will hope to enter as champions, they are searching for the latest batch of quality players that would take them to another level. The Gunners have recently identified Julian Brandt as someone worth keeping tabs on before the next transfer window opens.
Julian Brandt could be the next talent to develop at the Emirates Stadium
Other than Arsenal, it is claimed that Tottenham are also interested in Brandt. However, considering how Tottenham have blown hot and cold throughout the campaign and question marks hanging over manager Antonio Conte’s future, Arsenal might be an attractive option for Brandt.
Brandt can operate in a number of positions in attack, including as a No.10 and left winger. At Arsenal, he would have to compete with the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard for a place in the first XI. Given the number of games Martinelli and Odegaard have played so far this season, Arteta will need to manage their game time carefully.
Thus, Brandt could be a sensible rotation option for the north Londoners. The German international is starting to show his true potential this year, and at 26, he appears to be at the right age to take the next step in his career. That said, Arsenal must look to sign Brandt to boost their attacking options for the 2023/24 campaign.
