On Sunday, the Gunners are coming off the back of a 0-0 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The result saw them drop to second in the Premier table, two points behind league leaders Liverpool and a point ahead of Man City in third.

With things so tight at the top, every game from now on until the end of the season is a must-win for Mikel Arteta’s side. They will be confident of getting all three points against Luton, who are 18th in the table and face another north London side in four days, having suffered a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Arsenal Team News

Mikel Arteta has confirmed during his press conference that Bukayo Saka is available for selection against Luton Town after the winger came off late in Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Man City. He has also insisted Gabriel Martinelli is ready to play 90 minutes again, while long-term absentee Jurrien Timber is not far off a return to Arsenal’s matchday squad.

Goalkeeper

David Raya should take his spot in between the sticks, having kept a clean sheet at Man City on Sunday. The Spaniard will be aiming to shut his shop as quickly as possible against the Hatters in midweek.

Defence

Given the short turnaround time, Mikel Arteta may opt to rotate his squad when Luton visit the Emirates Stadium. Takehiro Tomiyasu could give Ben White a breather and start at right-back, having played 30 minutes on Sunday. On the other side of the defence, Arteta may persist with Jakub Kiwior which should see Oleksandr Zinchenko start on the bench once again.

William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes were excellent against Man City, keeping Erling Haaland quiet throughout the game. They are set to continue in central defence for the home side.

Midfield

Changes are expected in midfield as well, with Thomas Partey replacing Jorginho in the No.6 role. The Ghanaian’s presence will allow Declan Rice to operate further forward and threaten the Luton backline with his late runs in the box. Skipper Martin Odegaard should complete Arsenal’s engine room, and the onus will be on the Norwegian playmaker to unlock the rigid Hatters’ backline.

Jorginho could come off the bench to shore up the midfield when required.

Attack

Gabriel Jesus produced a stellar display off the flank against his former employers at the weekend, and Arteta could use the Brazilian on the right in favour of Saka, who is fine to play but fatigued. Kai Havertz is expected to reprise his false 9 role, with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard fighting for the final spot in attack.

Given Martinelli is fit to start again and play 90 minutes, the Brazilian international may get the nod over Trossard on the left flank. In Saka, Trossard and Nketiah, Arteta will have strong attacking weapons to bring off the bench against Luton.
