The Red Devils’ pursuit for a Champions League spot gathered momentum last weekend with a 2-1 away success over Aston Villa. It was their third successive win in the Premier League, leaving the Mancunian side just five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Erik ten Hag and his boys will want to continue their unbeaten run in 2024 by getting a positive result at Luton, who were beaten 3-1 by Sheffield United at home last time out.

Manchester United Team News

Erik ten Hag withdrew Luke Shaw at half-time against Aston Villa as a precautionary measure, and there are still question marks over the England international’s availability for the trip to Luton Town.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has suffered a setback in his recovery from injury and has been ruled out for the next few weeks, while Anthony Martial (groin), Mason Mount (calf), Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia (both knee) remain out as well.

Goalkeeper

Andre Onana produced his best performance in a Man United shirt at Villa Park, making a series of top saves to help his team claim all three points. He will be key in building up play from the back for the visitors.

Defence

Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane were solid in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa last weekend and must continue in central defence against Luton. Diogo Dalot has been a mainstay at the back this season, dishing out impressive performances. He should retain his spot at right-back.

Victor Lindelof could provide Ten Hag with the emergency solution at left-back if Luke Shaw fails to make the cut on Sunday, just like he did when the England international was withdrawn at half time at Villa Park. Operating on the left side of the back four, Lindelof could invert into midfield and help the Red Devils have more control in possession.

Midfield

There is no looking past the double pivot of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo, with Bruno Fernandes acting as the creative glue between midfield and attack. The trio will look to take control of the game and dictate terms against the home side.

Christian Eriksen, Sofyan Amrabat and Scott McTominay will retain their spots on the bench again, although Ten Hag would be inclined to bring on McTominay if United need a spark in attack.

Attack

Up front, Ten Hag is expected to field an unchanged unit. Rasmus Hojlund cannot stop scoring at the moment, netting in each of his last five appearances. The big Dane will lead the Man United attack again, flanked by Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

With their pace, flair and dynamism, Rashford and Garnacho could be a real handful for the Luton defenders. The trio will look to combine well in the final third and breach the hosts’ leaky rearguard.

Other attacking options should the United boss want to freshen up include Antony, Omari Forson and Amad Diallo.
