According to Sky Sports, Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has won the prestigious FWA player of the year of the award followed by a successful campaign in the Premier League this term. It is also understood that the 30-year-old had beaten the likes of Kevin de Bruyne ( a strong contender), Marcus Rashford and his teammate Trent Alexander Arnold, receiving more votes in the process. Having lifted the Premier League trophy after the win against Chelsea, Henderson has added another feather to his cap by becoming the recipient of this award.

Henderson said,

“You only have to look at the past winners of it, a number of whom I’ve been blessed to play with here at Liverpool, like Stevie (Gerrard), Luis (Suarez) and Mo (Salah) to know how prestigious it is.

“I owe a lot to so many different people – but none more so than my current team-mates – who have just been incredible and deserve this every bit as much as I do.

The Reds manager Jurgen Klopp laid his thoughts on Henderson receiving the award. (h/t Mirror)

“One of the big questions in football is what makes a proper player, or what is more important? Is it talent? Is it attitude?”

“I think the easy answer is without talent you are nothing, without the attitude you will stay a talent forever. “You are the perfect example that a mix makes a difference.”

“So many congratulations, well deserved, an outstanding achievement.”

Henderson is living the best years of his career after having won the UCL title last year followed the Premier League title this term. Ever since the 30-year-old was tipped to receive this award, there were talks regarding if he is the right choice or De Bruyne, who is arguably the best midfielder this season in Europe, to receive the award. Nevertheless, Henderson has the last laugh.

Despite getting thrown out of both UCL and FA Cup, The Reds have managed to have their hands at the Premier League crown after 30 long years. They will be focussing on the transfer window to strengthen the squad going forward.

Thiago Alcantara has been the only player strongly linked with a move to Anfield this summer as Klopp looks to add little firepower to the midfield, thereby taking the creative burden of both the full-backs.
