Chelsea eager on Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford

Chelsea have set their sights on Everton No.1 Jordan Pickford as they look to sign an experienced goalkeeper ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Jordan Pickford

The Blues have endured a torrid campaign under Mauricio Pochettino, lying seventh in the table. If results don’t go their way in the coming games, they could be without European football for the second successive season. Regardless of what happens, Chelsea are expected to be busy in the transfer market and remain in the hunt for a new goalkeeper.

Despite the form of Djordje Petrovic, who only arrived last year, the west London side have prepared a goalkeeper shortlist. Everton’s Jordan Pickford has been reportedly earmarked as a potential target for Chelsea, with Arsenal shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale also on the list.

Pickford, 30, has been a key player for Everton and England over the years. He is the undisputed No.1 for both club and country, and there is no doubt that the 30-year-old is good enough to play for a big outfit like Chelsea.

Chelsea have to splash the cash to sign Jordan Pickford

Since Everton have managed to maintain their top-flight status, signing Jordan Pickford could prove difficult for Chelsea.

The Pensioners will have to break the bank if they want to land Pickford in the summer transfer window. They are already amid financial difficulties and might not be able to spend freely due to the danger of violating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). So, the west London club must comply with the financial rules and regulations or they could be docked points, as Everton and Nottingham Forest witnessed this season.

Thus, it will be interesting to see how much budget they can allocate towards signing a new goalkeeper—preferably Pickford. Having spent seven years at Everton and made 276 appearances, Pickford could be tempted to join Chelsea if they come calling this summer. The England international has been embroiled in a relegation battle with the Toffees in recent campaigns, and he might feel that this summer could be the right time to take up a new challenge.

Pickford is a Premier League-proven commodity and would be an instant upgrade on both Sanchez and Petrovic. Given that Everton are also under financial pressure and could be forced to make major sales in the summer, Chelsea must test the Merseyside club’s resolve with a tempting bid for the English shot-stopper.
