Tottenham have confirmed the loan signing of Arnaut Danjuma after hijacking Everton’s deal for the Villarreal forward. The player has linked up with Antonio Conte’s side until the end of the season, with reports suggesting that Tottenham have the option to buy him outright in the summer.
Arnaut Danjuma, 25, had been expected to join Everton on loan after completing a medical with the club on Saturday, but Tottenham sensationally swooped in and convinced him to head to north London instead at the 11th hour. The Netherlands international becomes Spurs’ first signing of the January transfer window, and his arrival adds to Conte’s attacking options alongside Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Lucas Moura.
The 25-year-old played for Bournemouth from 2019 to 2021, scoring 17 goals in 52 games before joining Villarreal in La Liga. He played a crucial role in Villarreal’s surprise run to the Champions League semi-finals last season, scoring 16 goals in all competitions for the Yellow Submarines.
Arnaut Danjuma provides a big boost to Tottenham’s attacking unit
Tottenham have been heavily reliant on Harry Kane for goals once again, with the England international scoring his 16th league goal of the season in the 1-0 win over Fulham on Monday. Kane has continued to consistently deliver the goods amidst Son Heung-min’s struggles with form and the injury problems of Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Lucas Moura.
While Kulusevski and Richarlison recently returned from their respective injury problems, Antonio Conte was keen on adding more firepower to Spurs’ attacking options due to a gruelling second half of the season. As Spurs are still alive in the Champions League and FA Cup whilst fighting for a top-four finish, it made sense for the club to get in another body up front in this transfer window.
Spurs have seemingly fulfilled Conte’s wish for another forward by signing Arnaut Danjuma on loan until the end of the season. Danjuma has previously played in England with Bournemouth, so Tottenham will be expecting to see him adapt quickly and hit the ground running. The Netherlands international is a versatile forward capable of playing anywhere across the front three, which should benefit Conte as he will look to rotate his squad well in the coming months to keep his squad fit and fresh.
The 25-year-old fits the profile that will add a lot of value to Conte’s counter-attacking style of football at Spurs. He is quick, decisive, unpredictable and direct, which makes Danjuma a good attacking to cover and compete with the likes of Son, Richarlison and Kulusevski. Plus, the ex-Bournemouth man is an upgrade on Moura, who is into the final six months of his contract and is expected to leave at the end of the season.
All in all, Tottenham have done a fantastic job by hijacking Everton’s deal for Danjuma and signing him on loan for the rest of the 2022/23 campaign.
